New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush suffered a broken right fibula as he tried to recover his own muffed punt in Monday night's victory over the San Francisco 49ers, a league source said this morning.

The versatile running back, who scored the team's opening touchdown on a nice grab of a 6-yard throw from Drew Brees, will be examined today to determine the extent of the injury.

The league source said Bush could return this season if the break was clean.

ESPN reported that is what Saints "think". If he has a serious injury, that is the one of the ones to heal quickly. When is their off weeK? ESPN says Saints say 6 weeks out. They'll cofirm uopn return home.

I googled around and its seems like every sports related fractured fibula injury seems to be 6 weeks. Thats great news with how it looked at first

That's about how long it took for me to heal with the same injury. We should have him back after the bye week, if that's the case.

Hate to say it, but I think we have a broken fibula.

Fractured Fibula.. not a big deal really, since its a non-weight bearing bone...

Adam_Schefter Saints RB Reggie Bush's fractured fibula is not a season-ending injury. Initial estimates have him out 4-6 weeks. More tests today.

Yeah I'm wondering if that 9ers player will get fined, or will the league say it was an accident. You can argue he was already down, so there was no need to pile on.

pretty much the best case scenario

let's assume it's 6 weeks of heal time, which would have him missing up until week 9 @ Carolina. Our bye week is week 10, the next week, which is good news, so he gets an extra week.

So, we're looking at week 11 against Seattle...?

also, our schedule until then really is nothing too scary:

atlanta
carolina
@ arizona
tampa bay
cleveland
pittsburgh
@carolina

Weren't they all going for the ball that Reggie dropped?

And I'm glad, if it is the fibula, that it's the injury because 6 weeks is not bad considering I was worried he might be out for the season watching that live.

Yeah it was after Rejjie muffed a punt.

Pretty much anything goes after a fumble.

fractured fibula really is a best case scenario. that's not something that's going to have lingering effects like an acl.
