The Browns shut down their facility today and are having a COVID outbreak. The Browns need to win this week to make the playoffs.

This could be the tipping point to adding a playoff team, making it 8, thus eliminating the bye week.

Would the Saints alter week 17 plans if this happens? We’d still have to win to secure the 2 seed(unless Seattle loses too), but with the bye week off the table, it might put less of an emphasis on this Sunday.

The NFL has made it this far, I imagine they’d rather see the Browns play with 20 players than rearrange their entire post season right before week 17.

Make it 8 teams. It’s going to be a much bigger nightmare when the Browns lose and the entire playoffs is that story.

I like even numbers anyway so let’s make it 8.

I see this as the more likely scenario, the NFL enjoys punishing every team except the Ravens when it comes to mishandling COVID.

Does anyone know if the 7 team qualifying teams thing is only for this season because of Covid or is this something that will go on for the foreseeable future?

Lol, the browns would get smoked by the Chiefs and most likely the Ravens. Why does anyone care about altering the postseason around them?

What are you even trying to say? That if the Browns can’t play because of Chyna virus, the NFL will just give them a playoff spot?

I’ll refer you to the league memo dated August 2020 stating competitive disadvantages will happen because of the virus and all teams are on notice that they could get screwed because of it

If any game is cancelled due to COVID, then the playoffs move from 7 teams per conference to 8.

It just so happens that the Browns would directly benefit from their own game being cancelled as they would be assured a playoff spot in that scenario.

ETA: It's also a weird situation because we are essentially out of time to reschedule games since the playoffs start next Saturday.

If them defaulting as an 8th team is true, I'd call this outbreak a BS move. Browns investigation incoming.

Regular season is one thing. Wonder what they would do if an outbreak happened in the playoffs. Would they still force teams to play handicapped or would they postpone. My guess if the Saints were in question they'd force them others not so much. Imagine crowning a champion where the winner had a huge competitive advantage because opposing teams players were out due to covid.

Correct. It’s a coincidence that the Browns are the team involved here but here we are.

It won’t even be the story by the second half of the Monday morning talk shows. At least in any material way.

Going to suck for the league when one of the State Farm boys pops positive in the middle of the playoffs.

The nfl isn’t canceling this game nor even postponing it. The browns will be forced to play regardless of any situation. The deal is, why wouldn’t they want to play this game? The Steelers are starting Mason Rudolph and other Steelers starters won’t play the whole game.
