They WERE promising but both took a step back this year. I agree on Miller but Baun is about to be a Free Agent. No guarantee he even comes back. I never said Ireland never hits. But considering some the draft captain we have had, he’s squandered a lot of it. And as much as I despise Mickey, I doubt he’s going to overrule Ireland THAT much so I can’t pin all the draft busts squarely on him. Loomis is a big picture guy. He’s not in-depth with the draft like Jeff is. He will defer to him a lot of the time

Also….
The Falcons aren’t including Terry Fontenot in their head coaching search. He could be gone, which could reunite him with Loomis if Khai and/or Ireland leave. Fontenot is really talented at nailing free agents. He got Davis here, among others. Got Bates to Atlanta.

I would be shocked if Baun stays why?
The Saints forced him to play out of position most of 4 years. Someone will offer him a position he can play at.

Yeah it's not like Ireland's been consistently knocking it out of the park with these picks.
I did like the strategy though this year of going after players who were either team captains or players that did not go through the transfer portal.
I think that's the approach that some of these teams are taken around the league I know the Rams talked about it that that's the players that they focused on were guys who had four-year commitments to teams

Exactly, which is why it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some fresh blood and new ideas in the scouting department. College is evolving and so the scouting needs to as well.
As much as it would suck to lose them, we could desperately use those 2 third round comp picks for Khai if Carolina hires him. Maybe we lose Khai but get Terry Fontenot back from Atlanta.

Of the three Ireland is the one I would want to keep. But who knows.

Why LSU first fans so negative about the Saints??

we could have drafted better past couple years with a coin flip.

Because the team is not made up of 53 LSU players

Well of the three(as I said) who would you keep? And yes you only pick one of the three

who is 3rd? i think khai and loomis have proved to be an excellent duo. i would like to bring in a fresh football draft evaluator and replace Ireland.

They aren't?
I didn't see that. I think he gets another year. He has done well there.
As far as Ireland, I think the Saints need a new vision in the draft room.

Great so take the last couple actually useful guys and leave Allen, Carmichael and Loomis. Sounds like a plan for success! We are so so fricked……

Surely there are better cities and better franchises than NOLA.
Both want to be a True GM somewhere and the Saints will NEVER have a true, football-guy GM. That's why the Saints won't be going to the Superbowl again under this current structure.

this franchise is getting close to being toast for the foreseeable future. complacency and good ole boys club energy will drown us.

At least we'd get a pick for him

Unfortunately, I believe you’re right BUT I think it’s necessary for the long term success of the franchise to go through some really shite 4-13 seasons.
I think we’re in for one next year. After that, if they don’t nail the coach and QB, and the drafts that follow, we are toast for a while

I agree with you but also, no one does that. If they did, they'd dominate the NFL. Go look at the very best teams and even they are missing on 50% of their picks. It's just how the draft works.
I'd say the 2020 - 2022 drafts were all not as good as we needed them to be, but they aren't 0% hit rate drafts. 2020 gave us Ruiz (now a good player) and Baun. 2021 gave us Adebo, Werner, Landon Young and TBD Payton Turner. 2022 gave us Olave, Alontae and TBD Penning.
2023 also looks so far pretty solid with Bresee (4.5 sacks as a rookie DT!), Kendre, Howden, and AT, with TBD Foskey.
I feel like this is all pretty solid. Again, could be better, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. The draft is hard.
