We could have had him early in the 2nd round at worst! This would have provided an additional draft pick (s) for this year or next and lowered the contract price.

I really hope Peyton and Loomis had wood for this guy and knew other teams were looking at him at 29. Otherwise, this was a poorly executed pick.

yeah, we don't have an early 2nd round pick.

I love how everyone just assumes you can trade back whenever you want like it's Madden 21

There's absolutely no way anyone could know this except for those treating Kiper and McShay Big Boards as gospel.

You THINK that, but you don’t know if the other teams that took a DE after us didn’t have him graded higher than the guy they took. Nobody in the business said wtf, so that means it wasn’t some left field pick that we really reached for.

Was there? I Legit have not been following. I gave up on following the draft a long time ago. We will know in a couple years...

We'll have to see if it shakes out. But if Baldy is right, maybe the one thing you can't coach is DESIRE. You can teach technique. You can bust it in the weight room. But you can't teach a guy to play hard. While I don't necessarily think they are the same type of player, you see Akiem Hicks seem to play with tremendous effort a lot. Sometimes just flat out playing hard can make up for technical mistakes

3 of the 4 picks right after us were DE.

Another Baldy take

“(A league evaluator) told me, ‘Watch this kid Payton Turner from Houston. Six-five and change, 270 (pounds), three-year player, 84-inch wingspan, 36-inch arms — you can see his length show up on tape, too.

“And you watch this guy and say, ‘Geez, could this be Leon Lett?’ I mean, I played against Leon, and you couldn’t get your hands on him; he was just too long.”

By far my least favorite meme after draft picks.

You don't know that. There were 2-3 DE types picked right after us. There was clearly going to be a run at the position.

Unless you're talking about a guy that was likely to be picked 2-3 rounds later, if you don't think he's going to be there later, you take him. The end.

Just listened to Turner speak on nfl Sirius, he sounds like a damn Rhodes scholar. I bet he will be a really great pro.

That is true... But we did have a late first, 2nd and two 3rds. I can only imagine that would have created enough trade capital to move to early 2nd.

If Peyton and Loomis were afraid someone would take this guy in the next 5 picks, I sorta get it. If not, this was a waste of draft resources and $.

I would have traded the 28th for something 35-40 or used the 2nd and a third to move up in the second round.

Saying we didn't have an early second round pick is pretty lame considering the resources we had.

When we don't have a pick there, what is the point of a comment like this?

The 5th year option that comes with a 1st round pick is more important.

Rumor is the Bills were taking him at 30 if the saints didn’t take him.

you also wouldn't have the 5th year option if NO had the ability to take him early in the 2nd

The way I see it, this was a bad year for dline talent
Any quality at that position you are not going to get in later rounds
My only concern was the injury history but I can live with the pick and hope it pans out
Who knows, maybe they work a trade for Davenport at some point but you do need depth with his injury history

If you can't get pressure I don't care who your CB is, they won't be able to cover

Baldy is correct here. There is a LOT to like when it comes to this NFL prospect. Payton Turner is a solid NFL prospect.

People argue, "He's not a First Rounder". Fine. Maybe he's actually a 2nd Rounder. But when you pick 28th in the First Round, what's the difference between a late First Rounder and an early to mid-Second Round prospect? It it a tangible concrete difference or just a hunch and an educated guess?

When you pick 28th in the draft, you probably aren't going to get a prospect that everybody loves.
