Meanwhile, nobody seemed to shut him down/stop him from doing these Payton-driven moves:
-giving up a future 1st to move back into the 1st and draft Mark Ingram
- packaging 2 1st rounders to jump up and draft Brandin Cooks
- drafting his buddy Todd Peat's sloppy, fat-arse kid Andrus

Yes
And Payton made the biggest frick up in NFL history
But so many on this board give him a pass

OP seriously said Loomis didn’t allow Payton to draft Lamar jackson.
Come on.
Yep
Hard to believe the naïveté of so many fans
Payton was in full control and ran away from the shitshow he created

bullshite-artist Sean loves to declare to the world (after Lamar wins a couple of MVPs) how much he wanted to draft him, but was shut down by his "boss".
Payton praised Lamar Jackson multiple times before the 2018 draft & this board melted because of it.

He could have picked him and set up another 10 year run of success.
Instead he picked a giant oddball with no passion for the game.

Mad at CSP going behind the backs of his bosses to try and go to Miami. He's was lucky there was so much good will built up between the Saints FO and himself. There are reasons this was a horrible move by him Pilot. Or do you have a lot more examples of this happening in the nfl? No?
Never have hated him though. No way
I'll get it right

did Payton or not?
Washed players like Colston, Evans, Harper & Vilma were let go under Payton when they were no longer productive.

Been a Saints fan my entire life but I honestly can’t stomach them until Loomis is gone at the very least and really until Gayle sells the team like she should have done when Tom died.
There ain't a buyer going to keep them here.

He was just as responsible for creating the shite show as anyone else.

I will say CSP was an elite Saints coach.
A very good nfl coach.

SP created 90% of this abortion.

Don’t forget SPs most prized draft pick, Marcus (I’m hurt) Davenport.

Not saying Payton didn’t have his faults but I don’t think he really knew about evaluating defensive personnel on a pro level. Him deferring to the front office on this part always made sense to me and his offensive genius covered up their flaws a majority of the time. What you see now is Mickey Loomis calling the shots on both sides. Payton would have made a better GM.
Look at the timing when he left. Months after a succession plan was announced, one without his name in it, he left. Like him or not he built the Saints into a national brand. Gayle gambled with letting him walk and giving free rein to Mick.

Payton played a role in helping us to become this shitshow.
Plenty of other bad decisions were made after he was gone that has been more of a contributor, but lets be honest, he had no plan post-Brees. Everyone Sean Payton drafted as a replacement was a huge whiff. Then at the end, choose to invest in the desperation reclamation project known as, Jameis Winston.
