Anyone else thinking Armstead ends up back in NO?

the longer he goes without getting picked up, the more I think he sticks around (especially if we land Watson)

im not convinced. the cap situation will make it nearly impossible to keep him.

I think he's tied to Watson at this point...each player is being used as a selling point to the other but it's all or neither.

I just don’t know about paying him big money. He’s always injured. I’d rather pay less money to someone that may not have as much upside but is always on the field.

That's a good point. If we sign Watson, there is likely zero money to resign him... but if its Winston, he probably gets a deal especially with Williams gone. who knows though

You can save cap money by resigning Armstead.
If armstead leaves all void year dead cap accelerates to this year.
I'd anticipate you could save about $3-5 mill against the cap by actually signing him.

sure, but that all depends on the other offers he gets and how other contracts fall into place. You have to think beyond this year or else we will be right back in this boat again.

I doubt it. Salary cap is a real thing, and I just don't see both being able to co-exist. And, I don't think you'd invest in a LT without a premier QB either.
I think he's going to get his best offer, and give the Saints a chance to counter. In the end, I just don't think it can work out.

He’s said publicly he’s going to slow play free agency. He’s likely sitting on multiple offers

It's real to an extent. It's very elastic.
The biggest facade is the credit card analogy and the "bill finally coming due" and that's where it's not real. There are no expiration of terms...there is always next year...there is always an extension to the time. Despite years of seeing this people still don't allow themselves to acknowledge this differentiation from real life borrowing.

What's wrong with the boat we're in right now? It's been a good boat for greater than 10 years at this point. It's a strategic advantage they've implemented and the rest of the league is still playing catch up.
The biggest component is ownerships willingness to stroke big checks at the GM's beck and call. Not all ownership groups are willing to do that.

They have to get under the cap to trade for Watson's $35M cap hit. Once he's with the Saints, you could convert majority to a roster bonus and spread it over 5 years. Use $30M as example. Has $5M salary, and $6M cap hit for bonus; therefore, saving $24M against cap. In addition, Watson is happy with new deal bc if league suspends him his lost game checks will decrease from $2M+ a game check to $294k a game check

And this makes sense. He is at the top of almost everyones list of valued FA's. He can afford to take his time and see how this plays out.

I dont disagree in principle, we just have too many fat contracts that are all grouped together in tight chronological windows. That hasnt been the case for most of the SP era.

IIRC, if he leaves, there would be $12m in dead money. Better to keep him if the price is right.
