I've heard a rumor that Brees got injured vs Atlanta and was not the same since.

What play was this supposedly on? I've deleted it from my DVR and long term brain memory.

I don't recall, but there is an article out there which I skimmed over last week detailing this. Try and find that article. I wish I would've read it in detail, but I didn't have time at that moment.

It was a compelling case though, and I find it to be most likely. Brees was off the remainder of the season.

Warren sharp on twitter wrote about it. Basically he just compared deep ball numbers before and after that int. And also the obvious drop off in offense. The guy is smart when it comes to nfl handicapping but it’s all heresay

Look him up on Twitter @sharpfootball and go to about a week ago. He has a few tweets about it

I had a thread on it where he compared his deep ball passer rating (15+ yards) after that game, and he theorized that it came on a hit Drew took on an interception return as he lowered his shoulder into a blocker.

my thread

video of the hit

This is all conjecture since he played out the game. But Sharp points out that his stats started to shrink after this game.

Funny enough, in that video, there's another missed PI.

Well, Brees fell off a cliff after that game. So he either was hurt on that play or turned into last season Peyton Manning after that play.

That a hit on his non-throwing shoulder? I guess if it was hard enough it could reverberate all over his shoulders?

Could have sworn in the Dallas game Drew fell on his throwing shoulder in a weird way.

Or maybe the was Armstead.

Either way Dal/Atl game is where the fall began.

I've thought he was injured for months now.

He just didn't look right, and age wouldn't hit you all of a sudden-like in the middle of a season.

So if it was injured, any guess as to the injury? Seems if surgery was a fix, drew would've been in a sling at pels game. I guess he could still be getting surgery, but doesn't seem like waiting would be a good idea

I always thought the hit by bennett during philly game could have been the issue. It was during a throw that sailed out of bounds. His arm came to a dead stop while throwing.

I think this is true. His play dropped off from that moment on.

It was the play where he threw an interception and the ref didn't play the play dead, even though the WR clearly touched the defender while down.

Brees stupidly tried to make a tackle inside the 10 (he might have been taking on a block instead).

A lot of people simply refused to admit that Brees' play has fallen off. But, he was playing at such a high level prior to this.

Injury would've been to his non-throwing shoulder, so I am not sure why it would affect his deep ball that much. Drew may very well have been hurt, but I don't think that is what likely caused it.

I'm not an expert on anatomy, but Brees clearly uses his whole body to throw deep.

Well he hides it well. Here's his passer rating rankings since 2015...
2015 = 6th
2016 = 5th
2017 = 2nd
2018 = 1st

Hopefully he noodle arms here again next season
