I went to the Monday Night game in San Fran in week 2 of 2010. The whole weekend while in the city of San Fran, my friends and I were treated great and with open arms by the citizens of SF when out wearing Saints gear. However, Candlestick is in South SF near the airport, which is not anywhere near the touristy part of SF. I was completely disgusted at how we were treated at the game. Especially, after being treated so wonderful all weekend long.

My palms were sweating when I first read this post.

But man, it is gonna be hard to not stoop to their level. I might have to just check into OPP Sunday around 8am that day, eat my bologna n' cheese sammich, and ask to be released that night around 10PM.

I kid, I'm gonna frick up some San Fran people.

Plus I am sure these gangsters will not travel anyway

This.

The kind of 49ers-SF Giants fans that threaten people and used to throw 9 volt batteries at Dodger fans at the 'Stick are the same as the Raiders fans that fight them at the 49ers games. Only a few of these drunk thugs would pay the money to travel to NO for a game. Don't anyone in NO stoop to their level with the reasonable traveling Niners fans in any rematch game in the Dome.

A brief, but silent, moment of sanity.

It's been 4 days now...I'm still totally pissed about the way we were treated, and the danger my son and I were in, from the moment we left our parked car, through the abuse at our tailagte, and during and after the game. Same experience everyone is talking about,..in your face, drill sargeant cursing, Katrina insults, bodily and mortal threats, etc. I read the message boards, I new it was coming, but it was worse than I thought. Someone mentioned the airlines not tolerating this behavior, but it's ok for the SW Air steward to tell me " I hope you have a terrible weekend" as I got off the plane. And I guess it's ok for the desk clerk the Homewood suites to say " you have a lotta nerve wearing that" referring to my Saints sweatshirt with a 3 inch Fleur de Lis on the front. I guess 3 inches was more than she could handle!

Were they joking when they said those things? Or serious?

I was in Chicago for the NFC championship game and for about 3 days before and 1 day after and really didn't run into any of the behavior that was described from people in the papers. I got a lot of good natured ribbing like when we left the airport the cab driver looked at us in our saints gear and told us "you guys are going to have to change those clothes before I bring you anywhere" but he laughed after. And a bus driver downtown stopped when we were walking down the street and opened up the door and did a throat slashing gesture but she laughed also.

As for Chicago, I was there 3 days before the game and went out every night and day and never ran into any problems before or during the game. The worst I had happen was in the stadium. I got a few snow balls thrown my way when I went to the bathroom and they missed. It was just snow and no batteries inside of them and they really weren't thrown that hard anyway. It was me, my brother in law, and my two brothers and we had a blast in Chicago and the fans were great in the city days before the game and in our section during the game. I don't know I surely didn't see the bad treatment of fans while there.

I have heard bad things from people that went to Oakland and San Fran games though.

The head of Security for the 49ers called me today to get my version of my unfortunate experience at Candlestick Park. They apologized and said they were going to institute changes for the NY game and he said they revoked several season ticket holders from entry into the stadium.
I told him they needed Horses to help control the security at the Stadium and he said they don't use horses anymore because someone was killed a few years ago at Candlestick when a SFPD horse went nuts.

Regardless of his phone call I will never set foot back in that stadium. It is just too dangerous.

The SW Air Steward on the LAX to SF flight rolled his eyes and said something below his breath that include " Saints fans"as multiple Saints fans boarded the short flight to SF. He did have an arrogant smirk on his face as we deplaned, and I guess he was irritated when several fans in the rear of the plane began chanting " Who Dat" just as I deplaned, so I will give him a pass...still love Southwest Air.....but the clerk at the Homewood Suites was dead serious....added something about "we take our 49ers seriously around here".....and she was very young...doesn't understand the hospitality industry!
