9 trips to the playoffs in 15 seasons aint bad. only a 9-8 playoff record, 1-2 in NFC championships and 1 SB appearance tho.

For sure he was the best coach saints have ever had. but best in league? nah.. Top 10 i would say.

you are what your record says you are and those were quite a lot of victories over the regular season. lots of sub 500 teams in those wins.

His drafts were just as likely to be busts as successes. for every 2017 or 2007 draft, you had a Ruiz, or Stephone Anthony, or P-Rob or Lil Brandon, or Vaccarro etc etc

he never really seriously had a succession plan for life after Brees. other than throw draft capital at a wall and see if it sticks.

He also ruined some of Brees' prime by having exceptionally bad defenses---as if one could score 40+ a game at will. tho in his hubris he probably thought he could.

i never did like the jawing with opposing players or antagonizing the away fans---who could forget his 'Skol' cheer right before marcus williams missed that tackle. youd never see someone like Tom Landry do that.

tl;tr--thanks for the memories, the team is better because of you but the party was over.

I mean it’s hard to have a succession plan when you’re constantly picking in the 20s. They tried for Mahomes and Mac Jones apparently. Hard to find a successor in less than a season.

An Aaron Rodgers draft day type situation is rare

less than a season? We knew Drew was going to be done one day. back in 2014-2015. there was time, thoi i guess he did try for Garoppolo back then

Once again either way we’re too far in the draft to either trade up for a qb or too far in our original draft position. And that’s my point, you’re only able to get guys like Garrapolo, Darnold, Goff types at best during that time span. All of whom either suck or not good enough to warrant their teams to keep them around next season. That’s a pretty shite succession plan if that’s yours.

Really this may have been the best season to acquire a quality QB through trades, FA with rumors of Rodgers and Wilson potentially wanting to leave. But too late for that now

Besides Green Bay which fell into Rodgers who else has a “succession” plan at QB in the last 25-30 years?

New England? The Colts? Who’s the successor in Pittsburgh?

You play to win now, worry about the next QB later.

We had a successor. It was Kermit. But the Kool Aid man finally made the one correct move for once in his life and jumped us. What could have been. The Saints have to be the most unlucky franchise in the league.

How about 5 trips to the playoffs and a 1-5 record in the other 39 seasons?

I swear some of you never watched a game before 2006.

Obviously Payton is the best coach the Saints had by far but that doesn’t make him infallible or irreplaceable the past history is not really relevant

thank you.

as for the other jokers, i dare say i have been a fan longer than you. i was in the dome for thunder and lightning (not the "zoom and boom" of this year--what a terrible name). i had my Faith Hope and Bum bumper sticker. I still say Kamara could not hold George Rogers' jock. And i curse the bare foot of Mike Landsford to this day. Also 1981 draft >>> 2007 plus 2017 drafts

so spare me already. Payton was the best coach saints have ever had. but it was time to go (also, given the competition that isnt saying much).

You realize he’s 22nd in all time wins. And only 6 of those 22 have a better winning percentage than him. So unless you are saying top 10 all time then your post is pointless

I was there for the 0-26 Bucs first ever win

But this is a bit much:

Rodgers is from a different era and obviously a totally different style. He would hold Kamara’ jock if you told him there was cocaine in it.

ETA I did win a bet with a UT fan that Rickey Williams would not break the franchise rookie rushing record

First its the 2006 draft not 2007 but
don’t sleep on the 1986 draft. I give a slight edge to 17 but all were excellent drafts

now that right there is funny. i dont care who u are....

a different era for sure. i dont think Kamara could hold up at 40+ carries a game. i am pretty sure Bum wanted to do to Rogers what he did to Earl Campbell. have knees shot to hell at age 32.

i stand corrected on 2006. my apologies.

yes 86 was bad asss. Dombro, Hilliard Mayes and Swilling.

New England did have a plan and the owner nixed it.

Bill Bilichik wanted to trade Brady.

Sean Payton should have traded Brees after drafting Mahommes

Biggest frick up ever.

The his strikes me a message board rumors and depending on when they did it would have cost them 1 or 2 SB.

Except Mahomes was gone when the Saints picked and hindsight is always 20/20. Also Brees contract was up in 2017

15 years of work and those are the shitty critiques you came up with

Someone better tell Canton to hold off on the bust!
