Because him and Mingo both were playing DE in a 4-3 against bigger OLinemen, if they can both transition to OLB 3-4 in the NFL then I don't see why they can't be productive.
The same reason Bruce Irvin wasn't productive when forced to actually play the run.

Yep. There's a reason why Irvin never started a game last year but was the Seahawks best pass rusher.

I think you spelled Chris Clemons name wrong.

2012 regular season:
Chris Clemons-16 games started--11.5 sacks
Bruce Irvin--- 0 games started--8 sacks

okay, you might not believe me but Irvin lit up the Packers on that Monday Night game where the ref fricked up at the end.
I think Irvin had like 2 or 3 sacks alone in that game. Green Bay's O-line is crap though.
I remember we were hoping on this board (some of us anyway) that Irvin would be there in the 3rd round for us to "steal" last year in the draft.

And just think, if that had come to pass, we'd all probably be speculating on OT's, CB's, safeties or even wide receivers now instead of OLB's......or at least not as much.

They are a little light, but majority of DL/LBs will add up to 10 lbs pretty quick. They don't have class or a job, they play football. If a team wants to add some weight to a guy, they will do it.
And as far an Mingo not being able to bulk up is absurd. He's as lean as 240lbs can get. His frame is the type of frame that can easily pack on 10-15 lbs. People forget that last summer Mingo was bulking up during the off season, but was involved in a car accident and didn't allow him to continue his work outs.
Point being, if the NFL wants to add weight to a player, they will do it.

Even when he was bulking up before the injury, he still only got to like 240. That is his peak. The only way a guy who is built like Mingo can put on more weight is by taking PED's. Some guys just have crazy high metabolism. He is clearly one of those guys.
Not sure why you think it's absurd lol. The world is full of these guys who can eat whatever the hell they want and just can't put on weight. Again, Sam Montgomery got up to 260 without a problem it seems.

did I miss your response in some other thread troubl? I was looking for your take on Maponga. Looks like a solid late round choice to me.
-------------------
Jarvis Jones latest-
The nation's leader in sacks (14.5), tackles for a loss (24.5) and forced fumbles (seven), Jones got a favorable report from neck and spine specialist Dr. Craig Brigham, who's examining players at the combine, various teams told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Furthermore, while "multiple teams'' have eradicated Jones from their draft boards because of the stenosis, according to profootballtalk.com, Rob Rang of NFLdraftscout.com spoke to at least three clubs on Saturday that have cleared him.
"I saw a lot of doctors (Saturday) and they weren’t too concerned about what they saw,'' said Jones, who met with the Browns on Friday night. "They thought I was fine. I don’t know how the coaches feel about taking me, but I think I’m fine. I heard a lot of good news today, so I'm excited.''

I'd still go 10% or less chance of reaching #15

Yeah. You asked me in the British logo thread where I answered...

what's your take on Maponga as a mid round pick?
I don't know how he's going to test out since he's been nursing a foot injury. I don't think he's going to have the measurables most are looking for (A "tweener" at 260) - but he's a high motor guy (VERY aggressive and his first punch is a killer), good in the locker room and no off the field issues. If he puts up good numbers - He may jump up to early 4th. I'd feel comfortable with getting him in the 5th if there was a plan in place for what to do with him position-wise.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Boyce does... and Margus Hunt on the other side.
Did you see Boyce's final numbers in the Tavon Austin thread?
ETA:
Maponga came in at 6'02" and 256 lbs. I think that bodes well for his speed. 34 1/8" arms and 10" hands along with that bench power speak to his first punch I mentioned above.

WTF? I was just reading earlier about how all the teams red flagged him and he was dropping completely off some draft boards lol.
Posted on 2/24/13 at 9:38 pm to landrywasbeast30
true, I highlighted that. I was just adding that not all had and that some definitely still had him on the board.
Posted on 2/24/13 at 10:16 pm to blueslover
I'm interested in how one doctor clears him and another doctor doesn't. And this after I was talking up modern medicine and technology lol. They can't even agree on if a guy is healthy or not.
Posted on 2/24/13 at 10:38 pm to landrywasbeast30
Never heard of going for a second opinion? It's all a relative risk. You have to understand the mentality and philosophy of the doctor. Teams front office may have more or less tolerance to particular risks as well.
The Saints are big on "character" guys, those with strong intangibles. They are very conservative when considering players (draft or otherwise) that have had drug or character issues. They take some (Shockey, Nicks, Ivory, etc) but not as easily as say the Bengals or Jeff Fisher.
In the same way you weigh your tolerance for physical concerns and act accordingly. They might be looser in that regard. Nick Toon & Greg Romeus are all players that could have been completely off some other boards for medical concerns.
