I think we could have traded down and still picked him up

He was getting a lot of top 10 talk this past week. Not a reach at all.

Miami isn't stupid. Elite OT usually aren't available unless you pick in the top 3 or pay huge money. I am not upset with our pick, but pick tackles and try to move them inside. A unbelieavble OL makes your QB and RB 10 times better.

PFF:

12. New Orleans Saints: Sheldon Rankins | Grade: A We expected defense to be a focal point for the Saints and they take one of the best interior defensive linemen in the draft in Rankins. He’s versatile enough to play all over the defensive front, whether heads up on offensive linemen or shooting gaps to disrupt the backfield. He posted the No. 3 overall grade in the nation in 2014, behind Henry Anderson and Grady Jarrett, and he was one of the best in the nation in 2015 as well before he slowed down late in the season. Rankins is next in the line of “undersized” defensive tackles that will produce at the next level and he adds a much-needed disruptive presence to the Saints’ defensive front.

Good pick. We needed big bodies up front and this guy can play the pass and run.

It'll be curious to see how they rotate because Rankins and Fairley both fit best as 3 techs. Not that it's a bad problem to have.

I guess we'll still be a hybrid defense with Jenkins playing the nose at times.

The thing is you can get a good run stuffing DT later in the draft. Rankins is no slouch at that either.

But it get's harder to get pass rushing DT later on, and he's the best in the class.

At least it wasn't a pick out of left field like last year

This is my issue. Rankins is a solid player tho. Fairley isn't a long-term option so that's one way to look at it.
