That is not a great look.

Gayle/Pelicans should have just come out and said "Thank you Zion for the awesome gesture and pledge, but we got this one."

Not say some weirdly worded convoluted statement that "Hey we were working on it and then you put you giant dick on the table before we could figure out how to pay these minimum wage workers"

Yea I agree. Now our owner is getting trashed by media. Gale is known for being a giving person I'm sure she was going to cover the employees. Beautiful for what Zion did but hopefully we can all get on the same page

Yea, does that mean Zion just came out with this statement without at least consulting the team? I guess that does.

He probably didn't.

But in my non-billionaire opinion, I think the billionaires should have come out pretty immediately with a statement saying that even though details would need to be worked out, all arena staff wages would be taken care of in the event of a stoppage that we, the billionaire owners, decided to implement.

Several NBA organizations have done this.

Exactly. All 30 should have done it within 24 hours of the suspension

Yep, Cuban came out almost immediately and said he was already working on the logistics of making sure every arena employee would be paid.

That’s all Gayle has to do here. Really sours my feelings on her. Especially when a guy on a rookie scale contract is out there immediately promising to help out.

Ummm, they said they are/were working on the logistics of it...

I mean jesus christ guys, as Pels and probably mostly Saints fans, you should know Gayle will always do stuff like this, she does it mostly behind the scenes though as she doesn't really care about the recognition...

There's alot that has to go into it, it's not as simple as writing a check.. 100% guarantee lawyers are involved making sure the money goes exactly where it's supposed to, they have to ensure they have the cash on hand to support this (remember a person's met worth is not what they have sitting in a bank account), etc etc

You have to remember it's not just the stadium workers losing money, these owners are also losing millions from this.. TV revenue is not being paid out, but they still have to pay leases, players, front office, training staff, reimburse tickets if games will indeed be canceled

Looks like the players and their agents/PR teams are embarrassing the billionaire owners for the most part on this one. It's a generous and very savvy move by Zion when it's all over.

Which is a non-solution that came after the fact.

Hopefully Zion doing an incredible act of charity puts pressure on Gayle and Co. dragging their feet on doing the right thing

This is a losing argument with the public.

Cost of being a billionaire. No one gives a shite if they're out even 100 million from all this.

Dragging their feet?

They were working it all out..

Every owner that's came out right away saying they would do it are all just trying to make the biggest publicity stunt out of it, basically saying "Look how generous I am"

The true generosity is the ones that do it behind the scenes

I wonder what a ball park estimate would be for how much money this is? Regardless, it’s amazing to think that this is only the beginning of the legacy he’ll leave behind

And this exact Bernie Sanders mentality is what's going to kill the nation, as people don't actually know what net worth actually means anymore...

There's not many NBA owners that can afford to lose millions in a season

First statement from Zion: 5 hours ago

First statement from the Pels: 3 hours ago.

It took their superstar breaking radio silence about an ongoing conversation to actually get the Pelicans to address the issue. To which all we currently have is a non answer that borders on non-commitment
