Close-ish

Audio from Lowe Post

I don't know if this makes me less angrier that we tried or more angrier that we let the Lakers outbid us. That shouldn't ever happen.

For those who can't listen just yet, Lowe says we put in a good offer but the Lakers pick was more attractive and we were looking for a place to send Conley to.

Frustrating. Losing out to the Lakers on that deal has so many ramifications.

I guess so...

Beasley doesn't fix much, but the vanderbilt one does fix our current big man issue.

It kind of makes me more angry because I feel like we refused to offer a first and only offered multiple 2nds. Clearly we got out bid, and Lakers traded a 2027 first round, so logic would tell you that we didn't offer a first round pick, which was dumb.

Beasley would help the shooting issue. You can never have enough shooting. Both are good young players.

This also puts a hole in the people on here who say, "The pels weren't even in it for vanderbilt and beasley"

This can't be overlooked and is why the Lakers got the trade. It's not much different than the CJ trade where the Pels got CJ because they were the only team interested that could offer what Portland wanted, expiring salaries, the Knicks and Bulls just couldn't match it.

So the Pels were only Close-ish if they were willing to pay to send Graham and Conley somewhere else on top of giving the Jazz what they wanted. The Jazz didn't do the Lakers a favor, they had the assets the Jazz actually wanted. Taking anyone else's deal without moving Conley probably would have been worth at least 1 less 1st in value to them.

I’d kill to have someone go 7-12 from 3 aside from CJ and Trey some nights. I’m curious to know what the entire trade package that was offered.

That gets us into that lonzo territory, where we win or lose based on his shooting.

actual solid defense from big men who can rebound would do us better IMHO

You can assume that the Jazz didn't want Graham if they didn't want Conley, so it was probably something along the lines of making a 3 way trade with the Jazz and Spurs.

Spurs get Graham and 4 2nds
Jazz get Richardson, Temple and a good 1st
Pels get Beasley and Vanderbilt

The Pels would have had to send a 1st to the Spurs plus at least a few 2nds to take both Graham and Conley. That's when it starts getting expensive enough that you wonder if it's worth it.

The Lakers got them for nothing. How did we get outbid? Did we offer Temple and a 2nd?

That Lakers pick the Jazz got was one of the most coveted picks in the league, for us to beat that we would have to give up our last Lakers pick which would have been incredibly dumb for a team with so many holes and a hurt star.

Lakers were desperate, who knows how long lebron and AD have left. Our players outside of CJ are kids. No need to rush this season if Zion is hurt again.

I give up a future first for Vanderbilt and Beasley. Vanderbilt can guard 1-5 and Beasley will be the best perimeter shooter on our team. I would say Murphy but he needs to be consistent at away games too

Would you give up 2 future 1sts, one likely to be good, and multiple 2nds? That’s what it would have cost to just match the value the Lakers gave the Jazz.

Wonder if they thought at the time that they'd actually get Zion and Larry back without more setbacks, and if they thought that how much they weighed it as insurance vs. moving the needle at all.

Yes I would. I won’t know if those guys would develop into great role players like JV and Beasley. We already got our star players, we just need to surround them better
