Here's a good read on the Burks extension

LINK

The point about getting FA to Utah is spot on. I'm not sure how they ever get that star player without drafting him.

Their best play is to hope for a Memphis type seasoning and then blossoming. Maybe swing a trade for a damaged goods guy like ZBo was and have a guy mature like Conley and surppass expectations like Gasol

Tim Kawakami from the Bay Area thinks the Warriors will look to move either Lee or Iguodala to clear cap space after the Klay max.

You can’t avoid repercussions and any $70M deal has long-range effects. It has to.
What I believe: The Warriors might already be thinking about how to move either David Lee’s, Andre Iguodala’s or both deals in the near future, because if they don’t get rid of some of this long-term money, it’s going to make it very tough to re-sign Draymond Green next summer when he’s a restricted free agent and definitely make it almost impossible to add another key player after that.

Now accepting Jeff Bower Trade Machinist applications to get Iguodala to New Orleans

still don't want AI. if this team could compete for the ship this year or next, then maybe. but that's not the case quite yet, so I don't think it's worth taking on his contract.

He's a great, veteran fit for this team. Can play 1-3. Plays elite defense, can handle and pass. The only area he's lacking is shooting, but as a complementary player, he's dynamite.

His age is a concern, but the $$ isn't terrible. He's making Evans and Holiday $$ and is better than both guys.

ETA: I'd do a trade for him over Jeff Green every single time.

Guaranteed according to Sham Sports, but it is a decreasing contract. 12.3, then 11.7, then 11.1 the next 3 years.

interesting. that's a bit more appealing, especially with the cap increase coming up.

i guess my biggest concern is how much his decline will be in defense over the next few seasons. he's certainly more useful to the team than gordon, but i wonder if he would still be that come years 3 and 4 of that contract.

Yeah. A fair concern. His health last year was not promising.

My thought: if you've got Davis, Evans, Holiday, Anderson + whomever else, Iguodala can save energy on offense. Manage his minutes during the regular season and let him focus on defense. But I cant think of any realistic trade to get him to the Pelicans.

I'd worry about the spacing. It would seem he could only play with Reke while Ryno and AD were in.

Yeah. 2 things that alleviate those concerns for me -

1) He's good enough from deep, an excellent cutter, and good at attacking a closeout. His passing is outstanding. It really comes back to a more flowing offense that isn't dependent on one guy creating. Let these athletes move and keep the defense on alert at all times.

2) The definition of kick out for these guards seems to be throw it off the goal and let Davis et al clean it up.

Can we just trade Tyreke's ball-hogging arse instead?

How about something built around Gordon to Detroit, Josh Smith to Boston(with his bff Rondo/assuming Rondo stays), Jeff Green to Nola. Numbers don't work straight up, but its not too difficult with fillers.

Rationale for Detroit is they fill a position of need and get rid Smith(who doesn't fit) + Gordon's contract is a year shorter. And frees them up to re sign Monroe

Boston decides to keep Rondo and bring his pal in. Simmons had been calling it a while back.

If someone actually wants Josh Smith then this could work. You still might need to end up taking Wallace just to motivate Boston to do the trade, but the reason you want to dump Gordon is to go after someone like Green,, so just like the Asik trade, you bypass needing cap space to get a guy you're targeting.

I'm thinking more of a garbage for garbage small scale trade. I'd lie to see if we could give up some scrubs for Harkless. Give him the backup SF back and see what he can do.

If it doesn't work out, then you have to try to move Gordon in a big deal before the deadline.

Trade eric gordon to the sixers, they have almost 30 million in cap space. (J. Richardson is their highest paid player at six million). maybe we could get a second round pick back
