I'm happy for him. There's a lot of things we didn't like about Williams but his ability to get the team to play hard as consistently as he did was impressive. Looking back, he was quite good at getting good usage out of a lot of players. I think he'll be a good coach on his next opportunity.

his in-game management was average at best (i.e. game 3 4th quarter rebounding woes).

but we could honestly say he made chicken salad out of chicken shite. he turned borderline players (i.e. qpon, cole, etc) into solid playoff caliber contributors. he improved his team every year. he actually put up a solid fight vs the eventual champs with one of his top 3 guys injured/limited. limited his players deficiencies.

he's not a championship caliber coach, but he deserves a lot of credit

I've never argued that Monty should have been the guy long term but it was bad optics to let him go when we did and I have also wondered if the type of play Gentry employed led to the increased injuries of the roster last year. Pace is great but only if you know how to play with controlled pace.

Hope Monty does well at his next gig

Id take Monty over Gentry in a flash with this roster, especially being able to get through to Cousins. But that's just another C- move when it comes to coaching this team.

Hiring Monty and then hiring a GM to replace Demps would so be how this team operates, in fact they've literally already had Monty help pick the GM before. If Monty didn't burn any bridges with his alleged Him or Me ultimatum I could see Loomis doing this though. It doesn't threaten his power and should be a move that is easy to sell to AD who would sell it to Cousins. The biggest potential problem would be he sounds expensive.

Although this is probably just Woj bias.

So, we can just hire Monty Williams to do both jobs now. Just let Mickey be the money guy and give full control over coaching and player personnel to Monty

He was a bottom 3-5 coach when he was with NOP, hardly elite.

We then fired him for another bottom 3-5 NBA coach.

The 180 this board has done on Monty since he left is hilarious.

I don't think Monty is a good coach, but he'd be a WAY better fit with this roster than Gentry.

I'm pretty sure Monty would already be dead at the hands of Demarcus Cousins.

there's no 180, its the same fire monty and fire dell.

the reality is if you're gonna give a coach chicken shite, I'd take the coach that has the knack to turn it into chicken salad.

Go take a stroll down memory lane at the posts about Monty during his last two seasons in NO, then revisit this thread, and tell me that's not a 180.
