I previously had concerns with Dell and Gentry; now my biggest concern with the team is being in New Orleans. There's a reason the team plays better on the road than at home. Maybe, playing in a leaky, half empty building, in front of non-enthusiastic, bitter, financially limited, rednecks doesn't provide the team any boost or support. After a ten-game win streak, the home crowd was a disappointment, but it always has been.

Or maybe the players get too comfortable at home and lose that edge you have to have when on the road.

Dude. There were 17,000 people in the blender for the Wizards game, I was one of them. It’s not our fault the team played like shite from the jump. Maybe dont be 18-14 at home, the worst record for all western conference playoff teams, and you’ll get better crowds.

It's takes much more than one winning season to build a strong fan base. Just like an other franchise in small markets---if the Pels become a perennial winner and playoff contender the casual fans will come. Just this year we've seen a huge influx of causal fans visiting Pela talk. This is just the beginning my friend.

I still think one of the bigger problems is what people have been harping on for years with the game day experience needing much more local flavor. You could easily have the kind of in game entertainment that would attract a bigger crowd and make it a festive atmosphere all game long.

Maybe the team has a bad home record, because it is a crappy place to play.

I thought for a Tuesday night game against an average Eastern Conference team last night that they had a pretty good crowd (at least in the lower bowl).

There are 41 home games, in a city the size of New Orleans, I don't think it is realistic to expect a sell out every night.

NBA Attendance

Only the Grizzlies, Pacers, Nets, and Hawks have worse attendance than New Orleans. That's 3 of the worse teams in the league and Indiana (after trading PG).

You also have to look at capacity dummy. It shows that we’re at 94.8% full, which is 17th in the league. Seems accurate for a fringe playoff team.

Seating Capacity for every NBA arena

Not all arena's are equal so saying those three teams are worse doesn't really make sense.

They are 17th when it comes to percent sold out, at 95%, which is pretty damn good. There are 11 teams under 90%, and 7 of them are playoff teams.

Why do the Kings and Magic have better percentages then? Swamp water rationale.

Let's look at the 14 losses.

Golden State twice, to be expected
Toronto once, 1 seed in the east and a better team
Minnesota twice, 0-4 on the season for a reason
Jazz twice, 1-3 on the season for a reason
Clippers and Kings while still reeling from Boogie's injury
Wizards without AD
Orlando, shot 47% from 3, it was just one of those games where it wasn't your night

That's 11 of the 14 losses that, while disappointing don't seem unreasonable losses, certainly not games that they should have won to the point that you can blame the crowd. Is the crowd the reason the players didn't get up for those 3 bad losses against the Knicks, Kings and Mavs?

Because there ain’t shite to do in Orlando or Sacramento besides go to an NBA game. NOLA has far better entertainment options.

The kings have always had great attendance, even as a shitty team.

Don't know about Orlando, but their metro area is twice as populated as New Orleans. Maybe Orlandoians would rather go to Magic games than DisneyWorld.

I’m a season ticket holder that lives in Baton Rouge.

Would love to attend more games, but getting into the city from BR b/n 6-7 is just infuriating.

Left BR at 4:55 last Friday for the Wizards game. I wasn’t in my seat until 2 minutes left in the first quarter.

I’ll still be there for games down the stretch and playoffs tho.

True, but what does that do for the Pels. Would the Pels be better off in Seattle, Louisville, or Norfolk? The team deserves support. On TV, the Pels home crowd seems small and quiet. Why are the seats in the arena still Hornets colors?

We don't care what the answer to that question is. I get it, you're not from the area, like the core and just want the team to do better, but the topic of moving the team is going to be a non starter on this board. A better question is what can they do to make the home crowds better. As I said, people have been asking for a more local in game experience with local musicians for several years.

I'm not sure what the same checkered pattern on the ends is about, but they did change out the seats from Hornets teal to Pelicans Blue.

Oh come on. Orlando has a bit going on in the entertainment department.

But I agree that these are the only pro teams in their cities and have loyal fan bases.

I’m curious, what city do you think the team would be more successful in? What is your solution?

Or are you just being condescending toward the city and it’s fans (“rednecks”) to make you feel better about yourself?
