re: Windhorst says Pels aren't done, linked to Buddy and Lauri (eta: ScoopB also says Buddy)

I just re-listened and you’re probably right.
It makes sense that we’d be interested in either Buddy or Lauri, because they are both top tier in regards to catch and shoot 3’s. Buddy is 3rd in attempts and Lauri is 7th. Lauri actually makes them at a marginally better rate too (40.5% vs 39.6%). I’d be happy with either.

Buddy for Cousins was absolutely the correct move at the time. If Cousins never got injured that would have changed the entire trajectory of the NBA.
Yea. I’m no dell demps apologist (or fan) but demps really had some bad luck. The Pels were regarded unanimously as the winner of that trade and if Boogie doesn’t get hurt the Pels roll into the playoffs with Boogie/AD/Jrue/Rondo. That would have been a nightmare matchup for much of the west and it seemed like Boogie and AD were ready to be in Nola together for a stretch.

What about the Jazz? I thought they had to move out Ingles, Bojan, etc to avoid a big luxury tax bill?
I'd love to get either of them. We really need one more starting caliber player.

It really makes no sense why we wouldn't offer Lauri a big 1 year deal, like $18M. I seriously doubt Charlotte is looking to give him anything more than that. Right now Charlotte is right at the cap with the Oubre/Ish signings, so i'm not sure how they are operating are what they can offer, although from what i read it would somehow be part of our trade with Graham. Regardless, i don't think they can offer anywhere near $18M/yr like we can.
saw this about the Oubre signing.
As long as it isn't more than 2 years, i could really give two shits how much we give to him, just go get him.

That salary figure eats all of the Hornets remaining cap space. It’ll be interesting to see how that affects the Hornets pursuit of Lauri Markkanen.

What’s the downside to adding Buddy? Just his contract? Is he a liability defensively?
It looks like it’s a 3 year/$60 deal from here on out. That doesn’t seem so bad and I’d be pretty thrilled to have a backcourt of Graham, buddy, NAW with Kira and Sato providing some actual depth. You’d be pretty well guaranteed of having 2 legit 3 pt shooters on the court with Zion at all times with that addition.

3 years left at $20M each for a bench shooter that wants to start and can't play defense.
That's just not a good contract to have for us right now.

They made it clear that Ingles is staying. I find it hard to believe that they want to pay tax to keep Bojan, but they have new ownership and maybe they do.

Well damn, I was really hoping to add one of those guys. If that's true, I'd go all in on Buddy. Buddy and NAW would likely be the starters, with Graham as the 6th man that finishes most games.
I like the additions of Graham and Trey Murphy, but I dont thinks that's quite enough shooting. Just surround BI and Zion with elite shooters. Let teams pick their poison.

and its not like he is the amazing shooter either. He is okay, maybe above average, but not elite by any stretch of the imagination.

Why is Buddy a bench shooter but Graham is a starter? All stats point to Graham being more productive in a 6th man role.
I'd start NAW and Buddy, have Graham as the 6th man that finishes alot of games.

The Jazz are at like $150M in salaries. They have to cut close to $15M to get under the tax.
Bojan's salary is really the only one that fits that, and yes i'd take him back in a heartbeat.
They like Bojan, and they know how important he is to their team, so if they let him go, they'd probably want to get back a young guy that can play.
The last two playoffs they blamed injuries on not advancing further, this year with Mitchell, last year with Bojan, and Mitchell has talked about how important it is having Bojan out there b/c he can get his own shot.

In what universe is Buddy not an elite shooter? You can say alot about Buddy, but that's just blatantly false.

I don't think NAW is a PG. He can fill in for it, but i think he's better served off the ball.
and i would agree, both Graham and Buddy have more of a really good 6th man role to each of them.
Buddy is a terrible defender, that's why i do'nt want to start him.

This is how I feel. Murphy may not pan out, in which case we’ve really only added one shooter in Graham. Give me Ingram Zion and all the shooters you can assemble

I am not giving up any real asset to help out another team in the West get under the cap. Pay the tax or take some seconds. Let someone else help Utah, frick that.

I hear you there, but to be fair, all our starters are bad defenders lol.
That's why I say bring in more shooters and just try to outscore everyone.
