While this team has a lot of depth, that depth is really more at the 1, 2, and 3.

4 and 5 really don't have as much depth as you would think, especially considering this is almost certainly a redshirt year for Hayes.

You can play Ingram at the 4 but you really don't want that to be a high minute thing.

You have expendable players like E'twaun and (to a lesser degree Hart), you have several 2nds in this draft as well as your own pick, and Cleveland's heavily protected 1st.

Do they look at moving, say, Moore, to a team that needs Guard depth for a PF that can absorb some minutes, maybe using the Cleveland 1st or some 2nds if the player is better than Moore and on a neutral contract?

Any thoughts as to targets?

Kenrich, Melli, Okafor, Favors, Ingram will handle the 4 and 5 just fine..

All this means is Hayes may get some spot minutes here and there

Well given that the Knicks have 2/3 of the leagues PFs on their roster, that seems like as good of a place to start as any.

Even before Zions injury, i assumed we would make some sort of move to even up the log jam of guards.

Now that we know he will be out for 6-8 weeks, i think we make a move to add another big.

I’m not a Hayes Hater, but wouldn’t mind having PJ Washington right about now. Dude looks like a Horford-Lite.

Man, i agree with you on that. Hayes may have more upside down the road, but Washington is ready to play now.

regardless of the Zion injury, that is a move that has to happen.

Myles Turner would be #1, and most teams know he's available.
Olynyk and Leonard could be had from Miami, and we could get them under the tax in that deal as an incentive.

Orlando has Vucevic long term, Mo Bamba and Jonathon Isaac(who looks like he might break out this year) on rookie deals, and then Aaron Gordon.
I would love to find a way to get Isaac, but Aaron Gordon is definitely someone that could probably be on the trading block.

Charlotte has Marvin Williams exiring deal. he's been shooting around 38% the last 4 years from 3.

Denver has Juan Hernangomez who is goign to struggle to find minutes with Michael Porter Jr, Jerami Grant and Tyler Zeller.

I think we could find a way to get Ibaka/Anunoby if we send Ingram/Moore/Miller out.

Miller/Moore is the combo that will go out, it's what else will be needed to make a trade for that big that can shoot.

Time to give 20 minutes a game to Hayes. He can be our Zion by proxy. Get that kid some minutes!

I mean, the problem with a trade is that we want to be able to include the Miller $7 million, and we can't do that until December, when Zion may already be back.

I think this will open up an opportunity to experiment with with Ingram at the 4 in small doses and the 3 guard lineup of Jrue, Ball, and JJ. A 4-Out lineup with Jrue, Ball, JJ, Ingram, and Favors will kill offensively. The question would be if that lineup can hold its own on the boards. We would be giving up a lot of size at the 4 with Ingram, but Jrue and Ball are excellent rebounders for guards.

that is correct, unless you wanted to do Moore for Olynyk or Leonard now.

Even when Zion is back, we need a big that can shoot. I'm more interested in seeing how Favors does and how he affects our offense. Don't care about his scoring in particular, but our offense as a whole. I don't think he's the ideal center we want if Lonzo/Jrue/Ingram is our backcourt, and those starters did pretty crappy in +/- in the preseason.
Favors was -2 in game 1, while the other starters were in the +16 range. He was a -9 in game 2, and the other starters did terrible. He was a -8 in game 3, and the others did bad except for Zion. He was a +2 in game 4 wih the others starters doing ok in the positive.
Yeah it's just the preseason, and he supposedly has a lingering issue, but he didn't look good.
