ainge was able to offload conleys 24MM for next year and Beasleys 16MM (team option but still) and get a pick and all it cost him was Vanderbilt. He gets 47MM in expiring salary for his work

that ain’t too bad

I hear you but does that mean the plan is to compete via adding dudes in free agency?

Seems obvious it is but that's pretty surprising to me.

just guessing but probably the plan is to take on more bad salary next season in exchange for more picks

and build thru the draft while doing that

I bet he circles back to John Collins.

Which he'll ask the hawks for a pick to take on. That contract looks nasty. Vanderbilt can give a team 80% of john collins for a fraction of the cost

90% of NBA fans myself included had never heard of jarred Vanderbilt before he got thrown into the gobert trade. No offense but he’s not close to “80% of john Collins” right now. He might be good he might not be. There’s a reason nobody offered anything substantial for him at the deadline.

he was a throw in to the gobert trade and was a throw in to the Westbrook/Conley/Russell trade

Ehhhh, he kinda is. Collins is 15 and 8 per 36. Vanderbilt 12 and 12 and better defense/can play the 5. Collins can get himself a bucket better than Vanderbilt and shoot the 3.

There's also a reason why not a single team has wanted Collins for 3 years now while ATL would love to trade him.

Collins has more value in a trade, but Vanderbilt is easily the better value based on production and salary and cost acquisition.

But I do think Vanderbilt gives you pretty darn close to about 80% of what Collins gives you.

Really? I thought he was a pretty well known bench guy.

Nah, he’s the get for the Lakers. Beasley too.

obviously we will see but the “get” is deangelo Russell, as far as floor play goes. They dumped both their point guards yesterday

Beasley and Vanderbilt are good depth. They’ll probably start for the lakers but that’s more about how thin they were than how good they are

Lol. Love Vanderbilt but come on man. He has no where near the offense game of Collins.

Agreed. Also part of the reason that Collins not being traded by Atlanta makes no damn sense

They do not get the most out of him, not by a longshot

Collins is in that Markkanan stage right now where people don't think he is that good. But in the right role and on the right team, the guy is a 20/10 guy.

because getting either or both without sending out massive expiring salary (which the pels dont have) would have cost much more in draft equity, which is why utah didnt trade them elsewhere because the offers of big time draft picks for them didnt exist

All they gave up was a protected first. Wouldn't have graham and hayes' salary have gotten them close?
