Our coach was probably too busy thinking about dinner.

Game was lost in the 3rd. Portland played pretty good D on the last possession. That second to last possession was inexcusable tho

SVG wanted to show his max guy BI he still trusted him as the closer and it caused us the win. SVG and BI will have to do some acceptance soon with their souls because Zion is evolving FAST

The play was clearly designed as a Ingram/Zion PnR and Ingram abandoned that.

You can argue that maybe SVG should have tried to have Zion get that inbound ball and own the whole possession, and I’m not sure I’d disagree, but the play WAS designed to utilize Zion, BI just didn’t do it...

All he had to do as a ball Handler was trail the rolling big with the dribble penetration in the key with Zion and see if he can collapse the defense for an open pass to Zion or see if the defense stays home and he has a great look at the 10ft shot but this dude decides to go wide and tries to go around Covington who was already playing wide to force him back into the teeth of the defense which played into exactly what Portland wanted him to do.

Yeah, I thought it was mostly on SVG at first too. But after rewatching it, I think it's on both Ingram and Zion. Ingram didn't look to pass, and Zion ran a really lazy PNR and took himself out of the play. Chalk it up to growing pains.

Zion was in perfect position for either a dump off pass or the offensive rebound. He did what he was supposed to do. Ingram went rogue. SVG made it clear in the presser that the play was designed for a 2 man game with Ingram/Zion. Ingram dribbled himself out of the play.

I want the ball in Zion's hands, if the Zion needs to bail because he is getting too much attention I want that decision on him and for him to pick where the ball goes.

SVG said they called a pick and roll, but the Blazers took Zion away on it and BI didn't get a look he liked.

The real issue is Lonzo jacking up a 3 from 5 feet behind the line with 7 seconds left.

So SVG designed a play to put the ball in Ingram's hands to make the decision.

That's on SVG. Ingram has made bad decisions in this spot all season, why did SVG think anything different would happen here?

Right, there was no double, Ingram just couldn't get a look in iso.

Now, if we put the ball in Zion's hands to initiate, in what world does Zion get an Iso and NOT get a good look? Obviously, that wouldn't happen, Zion would get doubled/tripled and can either still get to the hoop for a high % shot or pass to a wide open dude. Sure, he could have fricked it up. But with Ingram, we know a contested shot was going to happen because that's what always happens there, our best possible outcome was a long contested 2. With Zion, we had a much higher % chance for a better look.

It's basic shite. Just get him the rock at the top of the key and let him go to work. A corner 3 would've been available as soon as he put his head down towards the goal. Even if he misses I like our odds of getting an offensive board too, we dominated the glass last night.

Not disputing it was a bad play call, just answering OP for why Zion didn't get a look.

the narrative in training camp and the first 15 games was about it being BI’s team and how he was the leader.

And then Zion hit warp speed and became the most dominant offensive player in the league about 10 games ago. Now they need to change course. The Pels are Zions organization basically, and everyone else is just living in it.
