If I had to bet my house on who the Pels will pick at 8…I’d say Johnny Davis.

They just had success picking Herb and signing Jose. Upperclassmen SEC player of the year, ACC defender of the year…

Johnny is Big 10 player of the tear….Upperclassmen…. Plays D….Ready to play…smart…can get his own shot….his 3pt shooting % is not great but his mechanics look good…its definitely fixable

Personally, I would swing big on Sharpe(probably gone by 8) or Mathurin…but I think Davis makes sense.

Mathurin or Griffin. Both long wings that can shoot and have plus athleticism.

McCollum
Herb
BI
Zion
Jonas

Jose/Kira
Mathurin or Griffin
Trey Murphy
Nance
Jax

ivey is not falling to 8. Sharpe probably isn’t either

Offensively there’s a lot of CJ in his game. I know people are down because of his percentages but he was asked to do way too much and it came at the expense of the shot selection especially towards the end of the year. They’re a half court team who doesn’t have the supporting cast to allow him to pick his shots.

I think he’s a much better deep ball shooter than his percentages says. He shot 38% on catch and shoot threes and I don’t expect him to take a lot of those 3s where the defender is draped all over him.

Defensively I think he’s the most proven one out of all of the high profile wings in the top 10.

Griffin's shooting is great.

But he's already had a long injury history and looks like 50% of the athlete he was two years ago in high school. To have already lost that much athleticism at 18 years old is scary.

I just watched two instant reaction/mock drafts on YouTube and one had us draft Johnny Davis and the other, AJ Griffin.

Mathurin was already taken in the first one and was available in the second one, but not picked.

He looked a lot better as the year went. He’s a much better shooter than Mathurin but I’m still pretty high on Mathurin. He’s more athletic and can probably turn into a decent ball handler

Davis is only 4 months older than Mathurin. People are attracted to Mathurin because of his shooting, but I always ask what can a guy do other than shoot?

Davis is the more complete and well rounded player, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say he’s a swing for the fences if you classify Mathurin as one.

It’s Mathurin for me right now

My Griffin fans on here must be gluttons for punishment when it comes to injuries with Pelicans players. This man is a walking red flag. His shooting is great but come on, look how this man moves on the court it’s painful to watch.

Griffin is in no fricking way, even close to the athlete that Mathurin is. Mathurin's athleticism is a huge plus for him, Griffin's is not.

I’d be pretty happy the Johnny Davis. Reality is if you get a quality 20-25 min rotation player at 8 you take that most years. I’ll be very surprised if Davis is a bust given how well rounded his game is.

A second line featuring Alvarado, Davis, Murphy, Hayes, nance is a pretty versatile group.

Right. And the problem is, thats not how he looked a few a years ago. If he looks like this at 18, who is he at 25? Unless there's reason to believe his athleticism will come back, I can't take him at 8.

Dyson Daniels/Jalen Duren

Kind of leaning Duren--maybe even Mark Williams.

Only one guy that can hit a 3 though.

None of these elite teams are putting multiple guys on the court at one time that you don't have to worry about from 3.

I'm gonna assume that Jabari, Chet, Paolo, Ivey Sharpe and Murray are all off the board by 8.

With that said, I'm pretty confident Mathurin will be the pick. He fits the culture, he fits a need and he has more upside than people are giving him credit for. Terrific athlete, great movement shooter which this roster could really use. Has all the tools to be a plus defender, has shown flashes but he also carried the load offensively for Arizona. I think his defense will be much better when he doesn't have to do near as much offensively. I'd bet money that Mathurin is the pick.

I also like Dyson Daniels, Johnny Davis and Jeremy Sochan. They all bring great defense and energy.

Only guys I don't want are Griffin and any of the centers. And if we take a low ceiling guy like Agbaji at 8, I might cry.

You gotta go for upside in the top 8. Not upside alone, but there has to be the potential for the player to become an all-star.

Yeah it's like people forgot how many games we complained "if we only had some more perimeter shooting".
