I assumed Bilal would be long gone by the time our pick rolls around.
I don't think anyone knows where he's gonna go. I've seen mocks with him going to the Jazz at 9 and then mocks with him going to the Jazz at 16. I agree he seems like the type we've drafted a lot of recently...Long, athletic, projects for well rounded contributions on both sides of the ball.

No, esp with how the cap is right now. Rookies are the way to go. We have to pay Herb and Trey which will not be cheap.

Guys we've drafted since 2019
1) Zion
2) Hayes
3) NAW
4) Kira
5) Trey
6) Herb
7) Dyson
8) Liddell
9) Matkovic
There's a mix of older and younger guys, but lots of guys who were touted as high character with the ability to impact the game on both ends.
Guys I see intersecting our draft slot, team needs, and selection trends:
Kobe Bufkin
Jalen Hood-Schifino
Cason Wallace
Bilal Coulibaly
Jordan Hawkins, Derek Lively, Gradey Dick wouldn't shock me, but I'm not sure they fit as well from a draft stock/type of player combo we've drafted under this front office.

We should probably take a peek at prospects in the 23 range as well. Portland has that pick from the Knicks. It could theoretically get moved to us in a potential deal.

Sleeper picks at 14:
Podz
Whitehead
Sensabaugh
Maxwell Lewis
Jett Howard

Dick would be great, but unlikely to be there. I would like Lively next, but he’s moving up the boards too.
Scott’s teammate Leonard Miller though, he’ll probably be around. Dude has tons of potential
LINK
ETA: 6’10”, 7’2” wingspan, 38 inch vertical. Averaged a double double and made 70% of his shots at the rim. Deep stroke is a bit weird and a work in progress, 32% or something like that, but he made close to 80% of his free throws. Fred’s a G, you never know

Miller is raw but what I like about him is he hustles his arse off on defense, runs the floor and gets boards. We could use a big like that.
Posted on 6/21/23 at 5:58 pm to Pels_Yaz
Yeah he’s super raw and a bit of a boom or bust guy. The upside is there though, and I’m not sure anyone else available at 14 will have that kind of ceiling.
Granted, several players floors are probably higher in that part of the draft

I would trade down if that was our pick at 14. Hes too raw to pick in late lottery in my opinion.
Posted on 6/21/23 at 6:25 pm to Pels_Yaz
Trade down for what? We already have enough assets and draft picks. If you like him, grab him.
Posted on 6/21/23 at 6:27 pm to duyp
Yeah thats not what gms do. If you can get more assets and grab your guy, why wouldn’t you? Instead of paying him a higher salary and drafting him too high.
Posted on 6/21/23 at 6:35 pm to Pels_Yaz
14 to 20 is probably a 700k difference. You don’t do it because you know other teams are looking for a big. You rather just draft him and not risk it. Especially in a weak draft.

Lol this is not a weak draft its actually a very deep draft. Im not sure who told you this was a weak draft. If you can get more assets and get your guy you always do that. Nobody in any sports team uses your strategy.
Posted on 6/21/23 at 6:56 pm to Pels_Yaz
How you know you will get your guy? 15-32 is a crapshoot. It is a weak draft for bigs. You’re talking about the NBA not the NFL. Look what happened last time we traded down. It worked out for us alright.

I mean they dont have to get a big. We need shooting desperately. I would go for the most talented guy not just a big. By the way there are only 30 spots in the nba first round. I was thinking if dropping from 14 to the 20s, not second round. Last time we traded down and we got rid of Adams contract, got JV and got Trey Murphy lol What are you seriously talking about lol???!!
Posted on 6/21/23 at 7:04 pm to Pels_Yaz
I think he’s talking about the Hayes deal
But yeah, The trade down for Trey Murphy ended up being good.

Exactly

I meant trade down a pick for more extra picks. We don’t need extra picks. We already have a decent roster. If pelicans really like the guy, just draft him. You rather not miss out.
Posted on 6/21/23 at 7:08 pm to 3PieceSpicy
Yeah I figured. Yeah they missed out on Garland but to me not horrible trade if you get the right guys. We could have had two of Herro, Clarke, Grant Williams, Keldon Johnson, Poole. We just picked the wrong guys unfortunately. The whole draft is always a bit of a crapshoot in my opinion.
Posted on 6/21/23 at 7:11 pm to duyp
I mean thats part of scouting and drafting. Pels do their research and see what teams like what players. But to completely cut off the option of trading down to get your guy is silly. Thats what Vlade did as gm for kings-would draft a second round guy at 11 because he wanted his guy. Hes out of a job now.
