No argument that Zion is fragile, but he plays (when he plays) like a beast, not a pussy. No one is bullying him or hurting him from physical play. He's not going to go sit b/c he got a bobo b/c someone got physical with him. He gets aggravated by it and then goes dunk on you.

They would hunt Zion in the pick and roll to the point he'd be borderline unplayable

that's where a good coach comes into play, or he simply doesn't close games out for them.
Kerr was terrible, not that he had much to work with as this was the least talented USA team they've ever have. He let guys get abused 1 on 1 the entire tournament and did next to nothing to game plan around that. I cannot stand when teams just let the switch happen with zero fight or plan to stop it from happening. shite, at least make them work hard to get the switch and waste some shot clock. Instead they just accept it to the point the offense doesn't even have to set the pick anymore. That's what everyone loves about Jrue and his ability to not switch.

Zion is exactly the kind of player you want coming off the bench for Team USA, and he would super efficient and bring energy to the team and arena.

Surprised no one said Cade Cunningham. He was the best player during their training camp.

i thought about him, but i haven't seen enough of him yet to make a decision on that, but yes if he has a good year, i'll take him over Mitchell in a heartbeat in my 12 man lineup. I want a bunch of big athletic 3's and 4's on this team.

Kerr isn't an elite coach.

There's enough talent on this USA team to play well, but he isn't doing them any favors.

Brunson to start over Haliburton? Jjj playing 19mins to allow small ball?

you can plan for that

he'd be unstoppable in international play. He's already unfrickingstoppable in the NBA. He would've trashed those dudes USA lost to today

1. Morant/Trae
2. Booker/Ant
3. Jimmy B/Jaylen B
4. Tatum/JJJ
5. AD/Bam

lovely team but small point guards not known for defense. morant actually can. it would be interesting if the coaches for 2024 Olympics invite 20 guys for the 10 who dress and 2 alternates.

i bet morant is a better defender than curry.
i doubt morant is invited.
curry will get an invitation.
kerr said in his presser he would like davis curry and lebron.

Wow, ok. Mitchell was 2nd team all-NBA and finished 6th in MVP voting, plus was one of the top 3 best 3pt shooters in the league last year. Plus, he's maybe the most athletic guard in the NBA. But I guess we'll just push all that aside. Need more middling size..

I’d probably build a team without Ingram or Zion as a main piece, bc you can’t rely on them to be healthy when you actually need them.

I think another issue is coaching. Kerr is overrated and often extremely lazy as a coach. Team USA played a lot like Golden State. Taking plays off, quarters off, games off. That’s fine in a 7 game series. That doesn’t cut it in a single elimination tournament. Kerr is too causal and I don’t think he really yearns to win that badly at the end of the day.

And the roster didn’t have a guy like Draymond Green to keep the rest of the guys in check. It was a bunch of nice guys that don’t play defense, anchored defensively by Jaren Jackson Jr that is A) addicted to fouling and B) is a horrible rebounder.

My man, I’m aware of who Donovan Mitchell is. I know he’s an elite talent.
I also know he doesn’t care about playing D and I’m putting a big emphasis on that, and he’d be the smallest guy on the team.
But as I said about Zion, Mitchell is exactly the kind of elite athlete I want coming off the bench.

You need small players. Basketball is played at levels. 6'7+ guys do not have the foot speed and quickness to check 6'0 PGs. We will get killed up and down the court.

If that wasn't the case, why didn't the Bulls play Jordan at PG? He is one of the greatest on ball defenders ever. I once watched him lock down Mark Price in the playoffs (truly embarrassed him). But he didn't do it full time, cause it took too much out of him.

You need quick guards. That's just a fact and they aren't constructing a team without them..

My team would be

Curry/Lillard/Cade (or Halliburton)
Booker/Edwards
Butler/Tatum
Durant/Leonard/Banchero
Anthony Davis/Adebayo

Ok, so who’s your quick little guard who’s an excellent defender against Dennis fricking Schroeder, who also won’t be hunted for switches against bigger guys?

this goes to the question kerr received post loss.
some successful opponents played together years.
do you want that for usa?

he dealt with it two ways.
1. lots of guys want to wear the USA. more guys should get a chance.
2. i want curry. (he never played for Usa.)
i want davis, hes big
and i want lebron.

Of course Kerr wants the best players in the NBA to win the Olympics. He just showed that he can’t win with even talent. He’s really not that great of a coach.

or kerr didnt value rebounding and traditional PF like the euros. hes getting knocked on the www for not putting Kessler in vs Germany.
it looks to me like he went with the warriors formula.
fwiw serbia is in the finals despite not having nba mvp Jokic.

He doesn’t in the pros neither. He has 6’6 Draymond Green playing center most of the time. He relies on the shooting of Klay and Steph as well as Draymond cheap shooting the opponents best player to win championships.

You give Kerr credit for helping design a team that maximizes a Stephen Curry. Its the type of team he’s most familiar with unfortunately Curry didn’t play FIBA
