What exactly is the time line for rebranding/name change?

I know there is a firm already hired on this front by Benson, but how long will it take for the name to be approved and then implemented? Seems like it would be perfect timing if things could be rolled out this summer when we hopefully grab Anthony Davis.

I saw a quote from that article on the firm that was hired said for the 2013 season, which should mean next season. Benson is obviously wanting to put his own stamp on this now.

We can't know the answer to this.
I think the league's rules state 24 months notice or they must be given a specific waiver.
Judging from Stern's reaction to Benson, they must have asked for a waiver in negotiations and that is not yet a finalized part of the deal.
We just can't know yet, although in the article about the firm, they mentioned the "2013 season". Is that 2012-13 (the champions are the "2013 champions") or the 2013-2014 season?

I think you're right about that, it may be 1 year instead of 2, but, the league definitely requires notice before you make any changes. Even uniform changes.

i love to see this happen for next year even though it is pretty much impossible. the popularity of the hornets would flow like the ancient rivers of babylon.

And our owner said "The Hornets name means nothing"
If the owner is willing to pay more to push it through then it will happen.,
If I was Benson I would call Michael Jordan and tell him he can have the Hornets name if he handles all the stuff with the league and donates a BBall court at a school in NOLA.

If there's a way, Benson will make it happen. I was just going off of previous posts with the whole wait period deal.

And he's the guy to sell that he can make it happen. He owns the name Pelicans, used to own the Voodoo, I think he can claim that he knows the NOLA sports market pretty well. On top of that the Hornets Blogosphere has been laying the groundwork for a rebrand for years. Over on HR they had a few polls and the final 3 were Brass, Krewe and Voodoo and honestly I don't think a marketing firm with 2 years could do any better than that. Now just pick one of those 3, design a logo/color scheme and roll out new uniforms in time for Anthony Davis to wear a Brass/Krewe/Voodoo hat on draft night.
