I thought it would be good to just have a thread to discuss stuff that doesn't pertain to the Pelicans or Lakers.

I'm really curious y'all's thoughts on the Mavs blowing out the Grizz by 41 points last night. I saw the highlights, and it looks like Luka had a game where he just couldn't miss, but I would not have thought that Dallas could hold the Grizzlies under 100 points.

And what the hell is happening in Philly? I watched most of their game against Boston, but they are now 0-3?

Edit: I see that the Spurs bench outscored the Sixers reserves 40 to 10. That's insane.

Doc Rivers is a terrible coach and the 6ers bench is trash. They will get it together and be playoff team c

The Sixers aren’t that bad but I just do t think Harden and Embiid are gonna win anything significant

Dallas is very underrated and Luka may be able to help get a top 2 seed in the west for them. I’m big on that team. Utah certainly a surprise. Tonight will be interesting but they are still a 7.5 point underdog.

My hot take is that Utah isn’t a mirage. They are decent. They have actual NBA players 1-8 on that team unlike the Spurs and OKC.

They’ll be in the playin discussion unless Ainge starts selling off those guys.

Clarkson, Sexton, Lauri, Conley, Beasley, Vanderbilt, Kessler, Olynyk etc.

That is not as bad as people thought.

Nothing.

It's a regular season NBA game, and first week of the season. Nothing more to read into it.

Memphis is going to take a step back this year, with the JJJ injury, they were expecting Zaire to play some big minutes for them then he got injured, and add in their trade of Melton and their depth is not nearly what it was last year.

They look like a team that will be too heavy for awhile as they will try to skirt around the tax every year.

watched both games
luka is like 7-1 or 8-1 against morant so not unprecedented. He’s a fricking cheat code.

embiid is clearly out of shape and harden is harden. I never understood how analysts we installing that team as favorites as they had massive turnover in roster. One thing that jumps out is that they’ve marginalized thybulle

saw this on mavs
at the risk of sending out the bronc-signal:
quote:

Luka Doncic is second on Mavs in scoring rate, PER and BPM. Christian Wood didn't get a lot of 6MOY hype heading into year, but he's gonna run away with it if he keeps this up (and if they don't start him). 50 pts in 49 minutes, 2nd in league in pts/36, third in PER.

Another problem the Sixers have is the fact they have basically had to bench Thybulle. He's apparently a "net negative" overall even with his great defense. Offense sux & hurts other members of the team. I'm sure Pels were worried about this same possibility with Herb...but figured out fairly early it wasn't gonna be a problem like Thybulle. Imagine if we had to bench Herb...it would be a bit of a problem for us. Sixers are having to bench "their Herb".

The 72 points by Indiana rookie Bennedict Mathurin are the most points through a player’s first 3 career games since Jerry Stackhouse had 76 in 1995. The rookie is averaging 24 points on 11-21 from 3.

absolutely
the Utah veterans can all play to varying degrees and this is only going to increase their value. Side benefit is that it keeps the fans engaged for a little while

A couple of game results yesterday that interested me:

Suns 112, Clippers 95

In Los Angeles, the Suns opened up a 33-18 lead after the 1st quarter in a game when PG13 and Kawhi both played. If everyone has thought that the Clippers are a top contender in the West, this is a reminder that the Suns still have a lot of talent. Also makes the Lakers loss to the Clippers look better.

Charlotte 126, Atlanta 109

The Hornets won on the road against an Atlanta team that's supposed to contend in the East. And they did it without LaMelo and Rozier, and against an Atlanta squad that was basically at full strength. This definitely makes our victory over them look better.

Games I'm interested in tonight:

Brooklyn at Memphis

How good is Brooklyn? And was the Grizzlies' blowout loss to the Mavs just one of those days?

Indiana at Philly

The Sixers have got to win this game, right?

Matthurin is probably contending for ROY also. He has been amazing for pacers, I wouldn’t be surprised if they upset Philly. Philly bench is nonexistent with guys like Shake,Korkmanz and Thybulle playing 0 minutes.

Holy cow. In Minnesota, the Spurs are up 103 - 71 over the T-Wolves at the start of the 4th quarter. The Spurs are going to be 3-1 after this game, and the Wolves will be 2-2, and I just have to wonder if the Gobert trade is going to end up as a horrible mistake.

The way to early returns suggest this could be a good rookie class. Banchero, smith, Murray, Ivey, mathurin, Sochan, Duren and even sharpe have all shown something to have their teams excited. Really the entire top 10 is giving early returns except for the two that are injured and Daniels.
