We got caught with our pants on the ground at trade deadline.

I'll admit it. Dallas screwed up giving up Brunson, they go get kyrie. Pheonix knows CP3 booker and Ayton are not enough. They go get Durant.
We would've been better off not doing anything and keeping graham. as much as a liability he is on defense. Playing 4v5 on every offensive possession makes me want to say many bad words.

No we wouldn't. We'd have another year of his contract vs an expiring. But in general, I agree. We should have made a big splash at the trade deadline and didn't do shite and it's clear we need a lot of help.

Fully believe that Griff was prepared to make a big move -- maybe not Durant big, but a needle mover at least.
Then big boy hurt himself again

There was no bigger move to make because at the deadline more than 20 teams are trying to get better. Even Toronto, which was one of the teams that could have gone either way, became buyers instead of being sellers. The Play In and flattened lottery odds have completely changed the trade deadline. There are way fewer sellers than there used to be.
The team has to make some big moves this offseason, not only because it has issues to address, but also because next deadline will be the same thing, way more buyers than sellers. The trade deadline is just not the solution to problems that it used to be.

How's Dallas doing post-trade?

KD was never coming here and we want nothing to do with Kyrie.
I would have loved to block the Lakers and get Beasley/Vanderbilt for a 1st, but Utah also unloaded Conley for an expiring Westbrook. The Jazz sent out $42 million and it would have been pretty hard for the Pels to construct a trade using expendable players that gave the same value to the Jazz that they got from the Lakers and Wolves.

I agree, they are not the fix all here. but it sounds like the move we made will show benefit at next years deadline

The smartest thing they did was not make a big move

You stand pat when you're not very good.
Disclaimer to that - I mean when you're a team that will never be a perennial tax team. It would have been a pretty poor decision to make a big splash and go into the tax this season, if we're only going to pay the tax once or twice and only if we're a legit contender.

Kyrie may not stay in Dallas.
Decent to fair chance he simply does what he said he would do and goes to LAL this offseason. Cause one low-key thing about LA's own trade moves, is they cleared Russ's contract and brought back a lot of expiring's.
PHX hurts cause they should be the favorites now if mostly healthy.

OG Anunoby by all accounts
Which, I would not have loved.
That would have been the quintessential small market, too scared to go for the A-tier guys so you settle on paying A-tier price for B-tier guys and oversell and under deliver.

That’s how coaches and GM’s lose jobs. Ask Nate McMillian

Jakob Poetl.
Nearly double the offensive and defensive stats compared to Billy. Having a crew of C's including JV, Larry and Jakob would have given us incredible flexibility at the C position.

You don't put all your chips in when you're not a good team.

1. The Spurs were better defensively last season when Poetl was OFF the court. Would he really solve the problems to that degree that we needed?
2. You can't have 3 decent centers on your team who all demand a level of playing time. That just does not work. All 3 guys are too good for 1 of them to rack up DNPs, which would have to happen. That's not how things work in the NBA, it just would not work. If you got Poetl, 1 of JV or Nance would have to go
3. Poetl is an expiring contract. So above points 1 and 2, this is probably the most important...are you giving up assets for a rental in Poetl for a sub .500 team, and you think that'll change the season entirely and make us a contender? Or, you pay Poetl next season and become a tax team, is Poetl the all in guy in your opinion for our potential 1-time shot at going into the tax for a title? I'd disagree with that.
