well i'm assuming if we dump them for a player(s), the player(s) we get will have big salary (reason they're being dumped)

What's his injury history? Is he just a fragile player in general or is there a specific injury issue?

Dalembert to Houston didn't help the Hornets any, but Sacramento and Toronto are probably still in the market for a center. With Toronto you might have to take back Calderon but Sacramento is still under the cap. I could also see Boston having interest and they could give you back garbage expirings, picks and rookies. Kaman for Oneal, Wilcox, Avery Bradley a rookie and a pick would work.

He's fragile in general from what I can tell, as at least one injury was an ankle sprain and another was a hamstring injury that hampered him for a season. Run-of-the-mill stuff for a player of his height.

FWIW, the Celtics hold the Clippers' pick this year in addition to their own.

I do too, it's pretty versatile and balanced and the holes can be plugged next season in the draft and with the MLE. But to keep this team together next year would mean being a tax team. Is the new owner willing to go there yet?

I definitely agree, I guess we will just have to wait and see what the new owner wants to do, or maybe we will know by the trade deadline.

Next year we will have the situation of who to let or keep... But right now if we don't do any trades this team is to complete, balanced, and I know it's to early to say this but seems like we are trying so much harder.

With CP3 gone everyone looking to be the next star player

This is the key. Defense alone might just keep this team in every game it plays. Of course this goes against the wisdom of the HornetTARDs, you know, winning and all, but I think it will be a fun, shortened season for this Hornets team. I for one am pulling for a playoff run.

If you are a Hornets fan and want to win a championship the last thing you should want is to make the playoffs and lose in the first round.

If anything you want them to be terrible. If we make the playoffs and don't get lottery picks we could end up like the bobcats.

If we tank it and get lottery picks we could very well be the next Thunder.

Two lottery picks plus a badass 2.. could bode well for the hornets.

Exactly.

our motto this season should be:
ALL or NOTHING.

Key word is "could".

What if this team is 6th best in the West right now, as is? I know it's a huge hypothetical, but what if?
You're already adding Minny's lottery pick next year, which is way more than what a playoff team usually gets to add.
I hope this team truly is good right now. Why would I hope my team is one of the worst in the league? If they truly are THAT bad, 2 lotto picks in the same draft most likely won't do the trick. JMO.

man i got into this bullshite with hornets fans the year after we lost game 7 to the suns

you build your team to win titles...or at least you want to

i caught a lot of shite telling people we had to wait and blow up the team in a couple years (peja/mopete expiring deals) to have that shot. they thought we could add a piece and win it all. they loved the posey signing, i hated it.

why do you want to get stuck in the 6th spot in the west?

depends on the picks. you don't think drafting kevin durant would be a major boost to this team?

Freakin luck of the draw and you know that. So yea, in that sense, having 2 picks gives you a better chance at being more lucky. But c'mon, those guys aren't in the draft every year. More top 10 picks in the NBA are misses than studs.

Watching this team in person play last night I can honestly say that we look 100% better than we did last year at this same time with Chris Paul & West in the lineup. The team last night played as a team and more importantly they have a HUGE HUGE HUGE chip on their shoulder. They don't like being called out nationally as a bunch of no talent nobodies who will be lucky to win 5 games this season.

I think this team has the ability to be one of the Top 4 Defensive teams this year on the court and we are going to see some break-out performances by players we have never really heard of. Any thoughts of a high lottery pick this year are futile unless the Organization makes some bad decisions.

The other part of this team that I really like besides Jason Smith's stepped up role as the team's emotional captain is our depth across the board. This isn't a team where if one player struggles we are in trouble this is a team where if a player struggles we have someone else who will step in too offset that players struggles.

Finally we have assembled a TEAM and not a STAR with a supporting cast.

This has been done. The team has been blown up, and if what we have now is a top 5 or 6 team in the West we should be ecstatic. Hornets got younger and cheaper and are probably equally as good. Plus you have the Minny pick. I don't see why you tank now for an additional pick, if in fact this team is really good right now as is.

Let's see, we have a young, budding star in EG to build around. We have a very solid big man in Kamen. We have young, athletic wings in Aminu and QPon (could probably move one if desired). We have possibly the best defensive 3 in the league with Ariza. Oak is a very serviceable Center, even moreso if coming off the bench. Jack is a very serviceable PG, but would prefer to be better here of course. Good enough bench players in J Smith and Beli.

I'm thinking get lucky with Minny's pick and maybe make a move to better the PG spot, and this team could be legit. And I also think winning now would help in the long run. It would intice a young star like EG to stay put. It might intice other FAs. And winning is a culture, attitude thing. Monty is new and young, with a defensive mindset. If these guys buy into it and it works, that only helps next year and the year after.

ETA: Forgot to include Carl Landry in my breakdown, who is a very solid, yet underrated NBA PF.

As well as these past 2 games have been. We are young which means come 4th quarter we will most likely be dead.

Team motto:

Keep it competitive, but ultimately let's focus on next year.

This team certainly has some youth but also a nice mix of veterans that aren't necessarily old.
Jack, Ariza, Landry, Kamen, Oak, Smith, Beli have all been around the block. And our star EG is in his 3rd year, right?
I don't see this team's "youth" as an issue.
