The Celtics are trading Noah Vonleh and cash to the Spurs, sources tell ESPN. The Spurs are waiving Gorgui Dieng to create the roster spot.

Dieng could be a sneaky good pickup for someone

Celtics save money, Spurs get paid for it, but it seems too early for that. This feels like a move before a move, perhaps for both teams.

Interesting to see who the Celtics could be adding.

Surely just depth. I couldn't see them really messing with the 2 deep unless they get a defensive guard they could sub out for Pritchard.

Looks like just a money move and it was easier for Boston to dump him now before his contract guaranteed for the year.

The Noah Vonleh contract was set to become guaranteed on Saturday Jan. 7.

The move opens up a roster spot and saves Boston $7.15M toward the luxury tax.

Cap space in San Antonio: $27.1M

I'm pretty sure this is poorly worded. It reduces their tax bill by $7.15M. Saving $7.15M toward the luxury tax would probably reduce their tax bill by $20M+.

Their tax bill went from about $65 to $58.

Per Marc Stein, Gary Trent Jr and Tim Hardaway are available

Trent Jr would be interesting. He'd give us another much needed shot creator but is on essentially an expiring contract (player option next season). How much would we want to give up for a 1 year rental? Would love to do it for Graham, Kira or Hayes, and a 1st.

Yea, I'd prefer Beasley as he has this year and then a team option. And I think generally he's a better fit than GTJ.

GTJ is more of a give me the ball and let me cook kind of dude. Beasley is more of a 3pt specialist. I think we need the latter more. We have 3 dudes who can give us all the initiating we need on offense.

I'm not going to give up a 1st round pick for Beasley. If it's for a 2nd round pick or two then maybe. GTJ is only 23 years old and posting good numbers. He's much more worth a 1st round pick than Beasley.

Beasley isn't exactly old, he's 26.

GTJ would likely be a half year rental, so age doesn't seem terribly relevant IMO. There's little chance we'd extend him after this season I'd guess.

2 seasons of Beasley compared to 1 season of GTJ and Beasley IMO being a much better fit.

The only issue with Beasley would be his past and baggage. I just can't see Griffin bringing in a guy like that no matter how talented he is.

I would do it, Temple and 2 2nds just to evaluate him for the rest of the year and see if you’d want to keep him.

There’s potential there, just need to figure out a way to unlock it

Change it to Trey Young and they'll have a deal.

Reddish has really done nothing in the NBA. I guess if Zion vouches for him, Temple and a 2nd may be worth a shot to see if he has any value.

They blew all their picks on Murray. Gotta get some back in order to have trade flexibility going forward.

No fricking way they get it, though, given the total disaster than the Gobert trade has been for Minny.

I wouldn't be surprised if the big player trade market is a little frozen because of Gobert. Sellers using that to adjust valuations and buyers saying no way in hell are they risking that much.
