So I'd put my money on Phil Jackson

Nothing of any substance. You would have seen multiple threads on it I'm sure if there was anything majorly new.

Lee and Green are both probably very busy right now.

Dream scenario would be Coach K or Roy Williams coming in and becoming assistants or becoming a special advisors to the pelicans.

I can't tell what is sarcasm anymore on this board.
I was thinking more someone like Lionel Hollins as a lead assistant.

Haha that’s why I said it’s a dream. I know it’s not going to happen though.

The draft is in 3 weeks and we still dont have a coach

Neither does Orlando or Washington

two model franchises. What great company
Meanwhile Boston, Dallas, Portland, Pacers, all teams with some success over the past few years have all made hires, quickly. None of us liked Kidd for us, but at least Dallas went out and got the guy they wanted.
I get that they have to make the right call here, as this is a huge hire...and maybe they have their guy and are just waiting for the Finals to end per his request.
But man, just shite or get off the pot. Last year's two month debacle is haunting.

Will Guillory's series in The Athletic on potential coaching hires (he's done Lee, Vaughn, and Vinson already) gets to Willie Green today.
See key ibts:
After reading this piece, I think that I'd definitely choose Green over Lee, based on what I've seen. Of course, we don't get to sit in these interviews or talk confidentially to people who played for and worked with these guys, so I won't be upset if we end up going with Lee or Vinson.

Why it makes sense
Hiring Green would fit with a lot of the reasoning I laid out in our story about Vinson’s candidacy last week. He’s got experience in the city of New Orleans, he knows how to develop intimate relationships with players, and he’s got an excellent track record with player development.
Two major factors separate Green from most other candidates, though: playing experience and rings.
While Vinson did have a cup of coffee in the league, Green played 12 years in the NBA and was asked to fill a vast number of roles during his time. He learned how to adapt with good teams and find where he fits. He knew how to stand out and not get lost in the fray on bad teams. It’s easier to gain the respect of young players when you have that long track record to look back on and reference while teaching.
Even more important, Green has been around two (and possibly three) championship-winning teams in the last five years. He’s seen up close what it takes to win when the lights are brightest and how to respond when the pressure seems like it’s too much to overcome.
No matter what team he works for, Green can walk into any room and demand a certain level of respect because of what he’s experienced in Golden State and Phoenix during some of the most remarkable runs in the history of those franchises.
Green’s experience is truly unique compared to other candidates because he’s had so much success at the very beginning of his coaching career. By the end of this season, he may have three rings as a coach before even reaching his 40th birthday. He’s already seen so much, but he’s still young enough to relate to a roster full of players in their 20s. He knows the modern game and can blend the old-school eye-test approach while also incorporating some of the analytics and data-driven theories that have taken over the game in recent years.
Snatching up the lead assistant from a title team hasn’t always been a formula for success in the past. Remember when Alvin Gentry was giving shoutouts to Anthony Davis in the Warriors’ champagne-soaked locker room in 2015? That didn’t exactly work out the way New Orleans hoped.
But when you look at how Green’s current and former co-workers speak about him, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he finds the same kind of success as a head coach. Perhaps New Orleans is the right place for him to display his blend of intensity and relatability that helped him reach this point.
quote:
Biggest questions
- Will he be creative enough offensively to get the most out of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram?
- How will he go about developing the young guards on the roster?
- Can he be the strong leader in the locker room this team needs?
- How will he handle the extra attention and additional voices around the franchise that comes with coaching Zion?
- Will his championship experience with Golden State and Phoenix put added pressure on the organization to win big immediately?
- How will he handle the tremendous scrutiny this team will be facing if they don’t show significant improvement next season?

I'm all in on Willie, but he has to bring in a lead assistant with HC experience, like Mike Brown or Kenny Atkinson.
Atkinson would have been nice, but he just got hired by the Warriors to be their lead assistant, which is odd, b/c Mike Brown has been in that role for the last 5 years.

Pretty obvious that GS thinks they need to make some changes to get back.

The Mavericks are in advanced talks to hire Detroit’s Sean Sweeney as an assistant to new coach Jason Kidd as Kidd begins to assemble his coaching staff, league sources say. Sweeney coached under Kidd with Brooklyn and Milwaukee.

Absolutely hate it when people use this line of thinking as some sort of roadmap to success when projecting them to a completely different situation. Alvin Gentry was with the Warriors before us. Monty was with the Spurs before us.
It's like when a team overpays for a free agent on a team that won the championship the year prior, hoping to syphon some sort of winning voodoo off of their past accomplishments.

Being a part of winning staffs is useful. Its certainly better than only having ever been on losers.
it doesn't mean it will translate to the same kind of success.

If we do get Green, I wonder if he brings Mark Bryant along with him.
KD and Perkins seem to like him.

Maybe that will end Perkins endless sabotage and hate fest on this franchise.
(also, don't see why Bryant would leave unless he is being made the Lead)

I'm not saying it has no use or it's some sort of negative, but the writer said "even more important". I don't see it as very "important" at all, but each his/her own.
