As I've said before, I didn't watch a ton of college ball this season, and I know Drummond has his detractors. But, man, the more I surf around and read about the guy, the more I really like his upside.

The consensus is he's got great length, athleticism and All Star potential. But he's been inconsistent. More than one site has raised the obvious question: Is he Dwight Howard or Kwame Brown?

So what are the board's thoughts?

This board hates him from what I can tell.

I can honestly say I don't know enough about him to form a solid opinion. I'm trying not to let the bad vibes around here stick, but it's hard not to at this point.

I would not draft him in the first round. You have to pay big bucks for big men in the NBA, and if you draft him in the first round you could end up overpaying severely.

I didn't really watch him at all this year, but most on the board say he is lazy and has no work ethic. At all. Kind of the NBA's version of Jamarcus Russell or Hasheem Thabeet v.2.0.

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Ultimate boom or bust pick.

There is definite risk. DraftExpress is high on him and their write has me optimistic. Also the Hornets are a great spot for him. Monty will demand him to work and will get the most out of him. Okafor will still be around, so Drummond doesnt have to be the man immediately.

I have no problem taking him if Davis/TRob are gone. If Demps/Monty think it can work, they've earned my trust on moves like this

Probably the most fitting description. He should dominate with his size, and doesn't. Not even close.

I think drafting drummond would be a huge mistake, and a waste of a high lottery pick.

Like I've said many times, you can't teach work ethic and the drive to get better. He may have it some day, but do we really wanna have to wait around for him to get his act together? If we were in a different position where we had been killing it in the draft recently I may think differently, but we need this pick (and minny's pick) to pan out.

NOLA isn't a free agent destination, so we need to get as many quality players via draft as we can and build a young core.

Yeah I don't know what his deal is. Some of the time he just looks totally disinterested on the court. He is a physical freak, but just doesn't seem to care that much.

HOWEVER with proper motivation, he definitely has the tools to be a STUD big in this league. If think a Davis Drummond combo would be an outstanding draft.

I'd take Beal and maybe MKG before Drummond.

IMO, there aren't many guys in this draft that I think would be a good value pick for us. This is a deep draft but it's not necessarily a deep lottery if that makes since. So the way I look at it, if we're on the clock and Davis, T-Rob, Beal, Barnes are all gone then I say get Drummond. I may even go as far to say take Drummond over Barnes and Beal. The guy just has so much upside. I know there's concern about his work ethic but that's why monty would be the perfect coach for him. Players work hard for monty. And if this guy as ANY desire in him monty will find it and use it.

That's not a bad take. Frankly, I may gamble with him, Perry Jones or Sullinger over Barnes or Beal. Primarily because I'm still thinking big man with our first pick

But would you go with Jones or Sullinger at 4 or so? I thought they were expected to go later in the lottery. Why not use the minny pick on one of them?

I guess it really depends upon where our two picks are, I suppose.

Yea exactly. It's hard to talk about scenarios because there are so many at this point.

The problem is we have to evaluate how long a guy will take to develop. We need to start winning soon. We will have Gordon resigned, but for how long? How long will he want to suffer through a rebuild. We have a lot of young talent that should be on the verge of coming into their own.

Drummond, IMO will take at least 3-4 years to be anything. He was that shitty in college. He doesnt even know how to run. That's how much work he needs.

Can we wait 4 years? Monty and Dell can't, that's why I think they will look at players that can contribute a little more quickly. I think even a guy like Arnett Moultrie will develop quicker than Drummond.

No way I could support picking him in the top 5. His numbers do not justify a first round pick. Ignore the bullshitters and bloggers. Look at his production and he is not a top pick. Maybe he could win the tall guy high jump at halftime.
