id rather Drummond than MKG.
but it's hard to overlook just how unimpressive he was his FR year.
save all the upside shite. Could you see DHoward or Bynum being so average as college freshman?
Drummond needs an overall attitude adjustment. He is just not aggressive at all, and looks disinterested at times. But his physical tools are there, obviously.

Absolutely could see Bynum doing that. He averaged 1 pt and 1 reb his rookie year.

If we draft him, we need to bring in an assistant coach known for working with big men.
Will Patrick Ewing be staying in Orlando if Stan Van Gundy is fired? If not, it may be a good time to grab a coach who has worked with a top center.

this is the question. nobody is denying this. just like nobody is denying he's a risky pick
but to just write him off is stupid

yes
effort is fixable. big men always have these issues

MKG is an interesting guy with as many potential flaws as drummond, but since he's a hard worker people just assume the flaws in his game get fixed. with perimeter players that is never a guarantee

he was the youngest player to ever play in an NBA game

No but that's the difference...he IS a hardworker and WILL put in the effort to at least try and get better. There is zero guarantee that Drummond will do anything of the sort.
But if you're going to take a risk, you usually take the risk on size.

Write him off completely? No.
That doesn't mean I want to pick him at #3 or #4 overall. I see more "bust" than "boom" with him, so I'd rather take him with a mid-lottery pick than a high-lottery pick.

I like Drummond. If we can't get Davis, I think Drummond could be a Hornet

but hard work only matters so much on the court. it's a noble thing, but if it doesn't improve his offense then he's another ariza. drummond could be a better player than MKG without trying nearly as hard

Drummond wasn't a fraction of the player MKG was against college competition.

So we are hoping for a Bynum type player or career. That would be great.. we'll draft Drummond 4th. He'll be the team's 3rd or 4th Center and barely play at all his first two seasons. He'll finally start showing flashes and starting some, but he'll be injury prone for the next couple seasons. Then we'll have to blindly offer an extension based on potential. So hopefully he can become an all star in his 7th year. I'm glad we tanked a year to get some of that..

Exaggerated, but I agree. I'd rather draft a sure starter than a boom/bust type in the top 5.

neither were the fration of player that jimmer fredette was in college, either
would you draft jimmer over MKG? Drummond?

I'm not going to respond to a strawman. Keep that shite on the Rant. The bottom line is, against a lower level of competition than the NBA provides, Drummond was a chump that doesn't warrant a lottery pick. You don't take a "potential" waiver in the top 5.

People keep posting that Drummond is not a hard worker, but I don't know where this is coming from. By all accounts, he busts his arse in practice. For some reason, it just doesn't translate in the game. I don't know why, but he never appeared to me (and I saw at least 20 of their games this year) that he had a killer instinct. It may just be a case of a guy who was biding his time because everyone in the world knew he was going into the draft. If that is the case, I think his upside could be tremendous. If it is not, and he just doesn't care for the game, who knows. Also, he played HS ball in Connecticut. If any of you have ever been to Connecticut, you'd know that the athletic talent in that state is horrific. He was playing against teams of 5 white guys that had a 6'2" center. MKG and Davis were playing at much higher levels to develop a better skill set.
I am not a huge fan od Drummond, but to write him off at this point is just plain silly. As someone on the UConn board said, in ten years he'll be younger than Tyson Chandler is now.

Nobody is writing him off completely. I just don't think he is a lottery pick, much less a top 5 pick, with how badly he underperformed this year. Sure, he may turn into an All Star, but players hardly ever hit their ceiling. More often than not, they get lazier after they get paid.

When looking at the year as a whole, he definitely underperformed, but he had at least a few very good games.
West Virginia - 20 pts, 11 rbs
Notre Dame - 15 pts, 11 rbs
Florida State - 12 pts, 10 rbs, 7 blks
Syracuse - 17 pts, 14 rbs, 3 blks
Notice how the best games of his season were agaisnt the best teams UConn played.

Which implies that effort and attention are two major problems with him.
