And then non season ticket holders will complain and call the season ticket holders stupid for wanting to win

The franchise can't put an entertaining, winning product on the floor without sacrificing the future, especially with the cap space available this summer?

Yeah, sorry, I ain't down with that. We can't afford to draft and stash. I don't think Benson is after his latest press conference. "No mora excuses to lose"' he said as he was try to find his head coach.
We have some young pieces with AD and Rivers. An enigma with EG, and a very nice 4 with a nice contract in Anderson. I'd like to see them add an established starter (DeMar DeRozan type player). I'd love to try to get Cousins.
VOR, hook a brotha up with that back line.

Add a 23-year-old improving player coming off a career year? Yeh, every team wants to add that.

I just said this is what the ticket holders and front office want?

Yeah, I'd like a young, up and comer, maybe looking for a second contract that we can afford to pay since we have space. The team we're trading with may have some cap issues. Our top pick with the coupled rookie contract may be appealing to them. Doesn't have to be DeRozan, but that kind of player.
Win and win.
Win and win.

I'll get right on it.
As far as winning is concerned, I've read lecture after lecture on this board from those who keep repeating the mantra of (essentially) having the patience to lose now and wait for it to pay off later. fricking when? We've sucked for several years now. We hit gold in the lottery last year and we'll have a decent pick this year whether we use it of trade it. At some point, the franchise has to suck it up and put the best team possible on the court for the upcoming season. The Pelicans need to make some moves now. I'm not saying they are ready to contend for a title, but they are definitely in a position to make some noise this next season.

You're no Chick Foret when it comes to Pels bball knowledge but you got the right idea concerning this team

Explain this a lil better for me
Like Wise Guy said, teams can sell picks. Hornets did this w/ Darrell Arthur and Cole Aldrich. Just a way for owners to avoid tax or just be cheap.

My whole trade the pick thing is I just don't see any of these guys, save Burke?, being other than a bench player. We can't wait for players to develop.
Maybe.
In the top 10 thread up top I linked an article comparing Shabazz to Harrison Barnes. Dont know anything about off court stuff, but their stats as 20 yo college players are nearly identical. Obviously no guarantee, but the Pelicans could certainly use a guy like that.

A very well known General Manager for a professional sports franchise once said "the day you say you have to do something, you're screwed. Because you are going to make a bad deal."
To me, it's a process. And this offseason is just a part of that process. I'm not saying I support tanking, but I definitely don't support making a deal just to make a deal - I'm sure everyone agrees with that and that's what you mean.
Can we get Mike Malone back?

And another cliche is you can never make a shot if you dont take a shot. The hornets have been pump faking since they have been in the league.
Lets try being good for a few years. Lets stop the if no title im not interested in ever being good logic. Lets win for a few years....and maybe eventually we can say ok we have won games but now this is old we need more.
But for fricks sake I need to wear some winning pants soon.

This team has to make moves this summer to collect some usable and tradable assets, like Anderson, Lopez.
They have to start winning this season. If not, things will get serious after the All-Star Break. They hamstrung themselves last season to make this offseason count, as this offseason is unique with the additional tax rules coming into effect. There will be no market like this one for a while.
Barring injury, there is no excuse. if the injury is to Eric, then that is not an excuse.

In my opinion, McLemore, Burke, Len (yes, Len, you got a problem with it?), Noel (maybe, but I'm not a huge fan), Shabazz (same as Noel), Porter or Oladipo would likely help our roster. Although, none of them are a lock as a starter, if you think about it.
i think there's only one situation where we certainly dont trade. that's if ben mac is on the board when we pick. len and burke are guys that you don't pass on at a slotted high lotto spot. porter and dipo...no later than mid-high lotto.
1. 2013&14 1st =rondo, green
2. ego, lopez=pekovic(sign & trade), 2nd rndr
3. ego, lopez=cousins or ego+2014 1st pick if sac-town shuns the straight-up.
4. ego, 2 1st's=john wall
5. ego, our first= draft rights to ben mac
6. ego, pels 1st, nets 2014 1st to detroit. detroit's 1st to nets. brook lopez to pels. nets sign d12. imma goddamn genius for this one!!
7. ego=wilson chandler
trading ego opens up many options moving forward.
im easy to give up next years 1st cause i dont think we'll be a lotto team. many on here along with the experts differ.

Lotto is what 43-44 hours away? At this point I'm personally just gonna wait till then to speculate.

That didn't work out so well for Cleveland did it.
I'd rather make the right moves and have a chance to make a title run. Not many teams get a franchise player. We have one. Don't waste the shot. I don't want to be like Cleveland and Orlando and try to build a win now mishmash of players. Lets put together a roster like Chicago, Indiana or OKC and make legit and sustainable runs.
That being said, it shouldn't take 7-8 years. I'm saying 3-4 with steady improvement every year. I say lets draft Burke, sign Martell Webster and call it an off season. I think that puts us in a legit position to make a playoff run next year and we build from there.

We don't have to be Cleveland.

With this team's current position, its cap space and potential flexibility, making a giant leap forward this next season and making wise, long term moves are not mutually exclusive, imo. No one wants management to do something foolish, and I don't think it will.

A shortened season with a franchise changing player available in the middle of an ownership transition was the perfect time to tank. But wanting to tank every year is called being a Kings fan. We saw after the Lakers game that the fans are ready to put the fire to Monty's seat. Monty himself seems very frustrated at the losses and lack of veterans too. I don't know if they'll trade the pick, but this team will use money to pick up veterans and be much more competitive next year. Anything short of 38-45 wins and competing for a playoff spot will probably get someone fired.

38 wins is the number I have in my mind that if the Pelicans get to it next year I would consider that a very good season. Of course that's not taking into account the offseason transactions; I'm just assuming the natural progression of the young players.
