You don't lose jv. He's your backup/superior Nance option

8/10 people would want the All Star Center over Jonas

Why the Nets do it? They get the better player out the deal and can market him easily while also gettting the ability to re-sign him because he has his friends with him Why the Cavs do it? They get an expiring that can play the way they need, a 8th pick of the draft project, and 3 FRP for a guy they were going to trade no matter what. An absolute haul. Why the Pelicans do it? You surround Zion with great deals, rebounding, and shooting!

I’d love for the Pels to do this man. Would be the kind of aggressive move a proactive GM should make. You come away with a much more well rounded team. Unfortunately I can’t see anyway to convince the other teams. They’re all getting serious ?? And mediocre picks. What they’re giving up are proven players who have valuable skill sets in the modern NBA. If I were those teams I wouldn’t be excited by these trades.

One I would like is:

Pels – Murray, Okongwu, and Mills
Hawks – Ingram, Zeller, Marshall and the Pels 2024 1st.

I think is easily a WCF team
I don't see how a team without anyone remotely near top 5 or even top 10 is an auto WCF and top 4 team in the NBA.

Murray is actually an interesting guard to put on this team, but I think it actually works out if you make a move for him.

He's a better primary facilitator than anyone we have.
He's a plus defender, despite this year saying otherwise (dating back to SA).
If his shooting this year holds true, its a huge plus right now
Contract is actually VERY team friendly

Cons is he is a potential headache and you don't know what it can do to a team dynamic as ours.

Okongwu is about to be a free agent, but he's an intriguing PF/C who actually gives us size. He's an okay rebounder.

It actually improves our point guard situation/big man rotation while sacrificing our wings a bit.

PG: Murray/Daniels/Alvarado/Mills (vet leader)
SG: McCollum/Hawkins
SF: Jones/Murphy
PF: Williamson/Okongwu/Murphy
C: Valanciunas/Nance

It'd likely work.

Didn't realize he signed an extension, my mistake.

If so, than I don't think that move is likely. He's part of their future when I think they move on from a clint capela.

Not from what I have heard.
This is why I added a first rounder pick to the trade.
It wasn't for DM.

2 1sts, Jonas AND Dyson for JA?

Holy overpay there

no shite. I’m the first to tell you I’m an NBA casual but I watch just about every Pels game and I have no idea who Jarrett Allen even is.

If you said that name I never would’ve guessed that was a professional basketball player. Obviously OP trade looks bonkers to me, but alas I am a casual

Well he’s been to as many all star games as BI and more recently too. He’s a very good player.

I made this one myself a while back, except I had Bey in instead of Mills. But final piece isn't very consequential. BI for Murray/Okongwu is the heart of it. But someone discussing Hawks on line said they don't want to take any salary back in a deal beyond this season...

Atlanta would definitely take the salary if they got the right player. They don’t want any bad salaries or role player salaries beyond this season, but for a starter they definitely would take it.

I think I need someone to tell me why they think JA is a better fit with Zion? I get that JA is an all-star caliber player. But I suppose the idea is to build around Zion. What does this accomplish?

I know what all these words mean, but what does it mean in basketball term? I'm trying to learn here, be gentle.

Gotcha

So think about a shooter, like KAT. If KAT played alongside Zion, that would be great because either the center guards Kat and Zion doesn't have to worry about the double team or help from a big or the team still doubles and we pass out to a 40% shooting center.

Vertical spacing is the same idea, sorta, but with lobs. Obviously a guy like Jarrett Allen isn't going to provide spacing due to his shooting ability, he has none. But he has a really good ability to jump and get up and finish off lobs. With Val, Zion is never going to just throw a ball up and have Val go up and get it for a dunk, and there's a value to that because it's instantaneous compared to passing to Val on the ground and him having to go up with it, that gives a defender time to get back to guarding him.

Allen provides that vertical spacing that will make defenses pay for having their center rotate over on Zion in just a different way that Val can't do.
