I don't think that is true. Injured players are traded a the time.
memphis has just got multi ring Danny green. he can't play at all. maybe he can play by playoff ball. probably not.
they've had injured guys thrown in deals before.

sooo....
durant staying means irving is staying (laker dreams dashed)
durant staying means the gobert trade set the high bar for mitchell, lets see what happens now. knicks could push all their chips in or risk the nets grabbing all the attention (and wins) in NYC
that all of this is happening in the east (good players staying east, good west players going east TBD) is good for the pels' chances

Rumor is that the Jazz and Knicks are coming close on a deal but the Knicks are balking at the number of unprotected firsts the Jazz want.
IIRC, current framework is Obi Toppin, one other player, three protected firsts (from other teams acquired around this draft), and two unprotected Knicks firsts.

The big question, though, is whether today's announcement will mean that idiots on this board will stop arguing about whether or not we should trade BI for KD.

Even better, the dreams are on hold. LeBron already dismissed rational team building role player trades like Buddy when they went after Westbrook last year. He doesn't care about role players any more than he cares about draft picks. I think this makes them do nothing until the deadline, holding out hope it falls apart in Brooklyn and they can get Kyrie.

They can try.
I’ll give LeBron credit for signing the extension but, based on the smoke in the press, my guess is that he is going to throw the team under the bus claiming they didn’t put pieces around him to succeed.
Not that the Lakers have been great shakes but LeBron’s insistence on Westbrook created the situation and a lack of long term deal meant the team wasn’t going to be aggressive in dumping Westbrook either.

knicks could push all their chips in
But giving it all up to pair Mitchell/Brunson in a backcourt is just a recipe to be a 6-8 seed and 1st round exist yearly with maybe and a big maybe you can win 1 series and get to a 2nd round.
Like I said, better than what they've done in the past, but that shouldn't factor in IMO, and I wouldn't do that to max out at slightly above average at best IMO.

A smart front office wouldn’t blow their load on Mitchell.
Problem is that Dolan may get retarded and decide they HAVE to be back in the playoffs immediately.

You're approaching this as someone that would take a fresh start and try to build a contender. They got a new GM and didn't start a Process, they did things to become a playoff level team like sign/acquire a bunch of mediocre guys like Randle and Fournier.
Leon Rose is kind of like Dell Demps, stuck between the owner and a hard place. Coming out of that being Blazers East is actually not a bad outcome. It's better than Demps did.

But otherwise, agreed. NYK will probably do it just to be "relevant" and not the worst team in the league like they've been the past 20 years.

mitchell is legitimately a needle mover and do not underestimate brunson, he had a pretty remarkable year last season and looks to be ascending.
mitchell is worth toppin/whetever and picks. especially the protected picks. i doubt ainge would take that deal though so the argument is likely moot

It's hard to tell with the asinine stuff the NY media comes up with, but I saw a headline yesterday about the Knicks want to keep Grimes more than Barrett and my first thought was this has to be an Ainge leak to get Barrett in the trade.

As I stated, they're not better than Dame/CJ. I don't really see any path to them building a team around Mitchell as good or better than Utah did, especially if they give up all their picks to get Mitchell.
They'll just be destined to be an ok team, which like I said, is much better than their past history, but it locks them into a ceiling which isn't terribly high.

Though I'd have a hard time believing a min contract type guy in IT was being held up here.

Yeah, if no bigger deals are going down, we probably don't trade Graham/Jaxson right now and I'm guessing EJ gets a 2 way.

Teams who were in the mix of a KD trade, or even teams that thought that they might facilitate, have been holding on to a couple of roster spots in case they needed them.
Now, those unsigned veteran bench players can actually get those roster spots.
