Greg Monroe expected to make decision before the end of the day. Picking between BOS AND NOLA

about the latest info i can find on this.

amazing signing if the pels can get Monroe over Boston with money, Spurs, Wizards where he played ball... even if he's a native, what a coup.

@wojespn: Monroe will sign a one-year, $5M deal with Celtics, league sources tell ESPN. Pelicans could only offer $2.2M.

Hardwood Paroxysm? @HPbasketball

Boston’s been really active in trade discussions on minor deals from what I heard from multiple west sources. More so than usual even for them.

This is what makes me doubt they have committed 8.4M to Monroe already and used up their exception. I think the wait is trying to squeeze the full amount.

One thing 42 mentioned is that if Boston does use it's $8.4 million disabled player exception on Monroe that would give them Non Bird Rights on him to bring him back back next year for $8.4.

Wait, the Celtics can offer him 8 million and we can offer him like 1 million?

Wtf decision is there to make.

New Orleans: home of native Harvey and more playing time. So we're working him harder for less money.

30 minutes of playing time vs 10-12 minutes.

The 30 minutes he gets here will he'll him showcase and earn a bigger contract elsewhere next year.

I guess the idea is he's likely to get much more playing time here. If he's one of the forces that helps to propel us into the playoffs he can cash in this off-season.

The Warriors are going to crush everyone anyway. Not like he’s winning a title with the Celtics this year. He can come here and help us get the sixth seed and win a series and be a local hero, plus show out for his next contract, which he can sign with a truer contender if he wants

With the proration it's only about $3 million extra. Not nothing but there's more money to be made by which opportunity is the better showcase for his next contract. I personally would go with the bench role in Boston but I consider him a bench player in today's NBA. If he still thinks he's more than a bench player the Pels provide him a better chance to prove it.

The question is, would Boston want to bring him back next year?

Has the buyout number been released? Some of that would be offset by his new salary.

Yes, should be offset from the difference in his new contract and the vet minimum divided by 2.

It might actually only mean that he would make less than 2 mil more for signing with Boston over the Pels.

No, but players rarely leave money on the table. If he was owed $17.8 for they year and he would get $800k on a prorated minimum, they probably bought him out for $17 million.

Regarding a set off amount, yes Phoenix would get some money back if he signed with a new team. For a minimum deal the setoff amount would be pretty minimal, under $500k. For the Boston deal the prorated amount would be about $1.4 million, which does cut down on the advantage Boston has some. But whether Boston would be interested in resigning Monroe at $8.4 is probably the biggest factor in the decision.

THIS YEAR

BOS can (and likely would) offer him over 8MM next year which the pels cannot do, under any circumstances that include resigning cousins. question for monroe is whether he thinks he could do better than that as an UFA

8 million for monroe's talent is kind of shitty IMO. That would be a reason not to go to boston imo.
