re: The Blazers are not expected to keep Jrue Holiday and are looking to trade him immediately

Holiday's contract is shorter which is the reason I would made the trade in a New York second. Actually I would rather trade CJ for Harden to gain salary cap flexibility. Harden would probably take a buyout not to play in NOLA.

CJ gives us elite shooting
No he doesn't. Over the last two seasons, Holiday has a better FG% and 3pt%. And no one is claiming Holiday is an elite shooter.

I think was the Jazz got for Gobert might get that claim. At least in recent memory. 8,000 first round picks for Gobert was quite a haul.

Love to have him back cuz he’s a great person but he’s 33 and makes way too much money for us.

I look at it as both teams taking a stab in the dark for relevance.
Milwaukee needed to shake things up or Giannis walks. Portland wasn’t keeping Dame but needed a player who fit their team better than Herro.
The plan may not be to keep Jrue but having him as the defensive stopper next to Sharpe or Scoot and being a veteran leader beats the frick out of getting some guys who are defensive turnstiles for your marquee player.
And if Dame whines about not being in Miami, I’m sure Giannis has no compunctions about smacking a bitch.

I just can't see Blazers keeping Jrue especially since they now have Thybulle, who I expect to make a bit of a leap this year on the offensive end to go along with his excellent defense. I'd actually like to see Thybulle on the Pels...as strange as that might sound...to many here.

I think you’ll see the Clippers or Warriors make a push to get Jrue. Lakers would but they can’t trade enough salary to make it happen until December when they can trade recently signed players.
And I’m sure Jrue wants to be in LA.

Warriors have the salary to get Jrue if they send out CP3, but that still begs the question of what Portland gets out of it because CP3 is a worse fit for them than Jrue.

One day. Herb may be Jrue, but not today, imo.

I'll never get used to NBA trades, particularly these 3-team trades that always turn into a total of 4 & 5 teams getting involved, after the initial 3-way is done. And a lot of times, traded-for players are outright cut, or cash buyouts/considerations are involved.
It's so foreign to me, after watching NFL trades for almost 50 years.

I doubt Portland is that interested in getting someone they actually want to play for them in the return. They want picks.
Warriors can only trade 26 and 28 firsts.
Clippers can only trade 28 and 30 firsts.
Miami can trade 27 and 29 firsts, and has a nice expiring in Lowry to help match salaries.
Lakers can only trade 29 first.
Philly can only trade 29 first.
Dallas can only trade 26 and 28 firsts.
Knicks have all of their 1sts and more.
Boston has all of their 1sts, plus the Warriors 24 1st.
They should without a doubt send Brogdon and Horford out to get back Jrue.
a lineup with Jrue/Brown/Tatum/Williams with Porzingis and White should win the title if they are healthy in the playoffs.
I'd say the only real contenders here are Boston, Dallas and Miami, and Boston can beat any trade anyone else can put out there while still keeping their team mostly in tack.

Jrue WOULD be a good replacement for Smart, who got shipped out to Memphis…

Jrue is a fine player and a good man.
