BI was a prior all star and we couldn’t get back one starter for him

He played like straight arse in the play-in and he refused a $40M/year extension offer from us in the offseason. BI tanked his own value. Sure, it's possible we could have traded him for Scoot a year prior, but we'd all still be saying Griff is trash right now if he had done that.

I'm not saying he isn't trash, but I don't know what else we could have expected to get right now

I really wanted to trade him for Scoot two years ago. That would have been a better haul but we don’t know the full details. There was talk Portland and Charlotte wanted more assets than just BI. Likely it would have been BI + picks or BI + Dyson. Now in hindsight BI + a first or Dyson for number 2 or 3 last year is much better than what we actually ended up doing if you combine the BI and Murray trades. And yes again we wasted a bunch of assets waiting too long. But in isolation this trade is good.

Now, was he worth 50mil? Maybe, maybe not. But i definitely know who ISN’T worth 50mil. ZION

And he is not earning 50mil now nor eill be at the end of the contract. His contract is actually one of the few good things Griffin did.

D- in my opinion but we waited too long. Same shite we did with Lonzo. Griff is fricking terrible.

Nah, much better than a D-. I agree he waited too long but based on current value, he did pretty good. The Hawks just gave away Deandre Hunter for Caris Lavert and some 2nds. I am very surprised we got a first in return.

I wonder if we had any interest in Hunter in talks with the Hawks.

You're starting to compete with Pride for the most obnoxious poster on TD.

Hearing the Posi-Pel take (though they had other negative comments) on the From the Wing pod that we "traded BI for Trey Murphy." Trey needed to start, and a starting lineup containing BI, Zion, and Trey was never going to be good enough defensively.

So, Trey's growing stardom meant that BI needed to go. His fit wasn't just bad with Zion -- it was also suboptimal with Trey. So, we got the best deal that we could for BI, and we can now be glad that the Trey Murphy era has officially begun.

I don't think that's necessarily a terrible take, but it definitely doesn't account for the depression of this season.

EDIT: And maybe we traded BI for Cooper Flagg.

All that does is highlight how terrible Griff's foresight is. How can the college scouting be so good but the projections of your own players be so bad?

Well, besides Mama Murphy, who was projecting this kind of jump from Trey? Most guys don't normally develop like this at his age.

When they didn't reach for the stars (NAW, Hayes, Lewis, and Hawkins - high ceiling, low floors), they isolated some damn good talent in the draft (Murphy, Jones, Alvarado, Marshall, Missi).

Going into the year its gonna be interesting:
PG: McCollum/Alvarado; TBD timeframe: Murray
SG: Jones/Hawkins/Brown
SF: Murphy/Brown
PF: Williamson/[Empty]
C: Missi/Olynyk/Matkovic

PLEASE lotto gods, land us Flagg. We could really reset this entirety in 2-3 years.

This is the most I’ve seen you lay into Griff. And it’s been all day long. Welcome aboard the hate train. I thought highly of Griff when we hired him. But when he made that Steven Adams trade, I started driving the train and never looked back…

The Graham trade is actually funnier.

That first landed mark williams.

Costed us assets... So dumb.

I know. I remember saying in that thread a first should never have been on the table for Graham. You sign him and then if they match so be it. You find someone else.
