He did mention Jrue once when talking about Lonzo playing off ball as a spacer and Jrue taking over at point

Yeah, he said Zo's improved shooting helped the playmakers BI and Jrue, but that was the only mention. This is in contrast to last year's pressers where Griff couldn't stop gushing about Jrue and trying to sell him as the face of the franchise.

Maybe Stan is pumping up the value
duh. I don’t think even Stan knows if we should definitively trade these players or not. But talking poorly about them or kind of brushing them off is only going to hurt their trade value.

Also Jrue doesn’t need to be talked up about as much as Zo. The results and interests speak for itself

Interesting hearing about using Ball as an off ball floor spacer
Some of us have been mentioning this for a while now.

If Stan is gonna turn Lonzo into Mr 3 and D, who the hell is gonna run the point going forwards?

Just run everything through Ingram and Zion?

Plus there's no need to discuss what Jrue could become, he is who he is and it's unlikely he's changing.

The topic of the Q/A today was the young players. That was clearly the emphasis.

Stan Van Gundy noted that one of the most exciting aspects of #Pelicans is their roster composition. He called it "a great mix of young talent, alongside very productive, high-character veterans with great experience."

Seriously doubt we trade guys like Jrue unless other high character, experienced vets are included.

It doesn't make me think that.

It makes me think Griffin and SVG don't want to trade guys like that unless they have to or get an amazing deal. They want to see what they have and then when the deadline rolls around re-evaluate.

A player that the Jrue trade nets. Either a solid primary ball handler that can be paired with Zion/Ingram long term, or at least one that can buy some time while we develop a guard that is drafted.

Any mention of Ingram with point duties?

I think that, for this to happen, BI needs to learn to create 3pt shots for himself off the dribble. Ingram improved so much in so many ways last year, so maybe he can get good at this too, but, this past year, BI was only a 3pt threat in catch-and-shoot situations, and that's not ideal in a primary ball handler.

WWL doing Pels coverage on the hire. Bobby and Garic spent 45 seconds confused on whether we hired Stan or Jeff.

we're moving along on that front and y'know, I think we've got some outstanding candidates and some great ideas, and that should come together relatively soon

I.e. we are waiting for Houston and OKC to make their hires so we can announce Udoka and Weaver as assistant coaches

If I am reading the tea leaves from that presser, Zo is staying and Jrue is gone. That doesn't mean Zo is running the offense in the half court as they may draft or trade for a guard, but it sounds like he will be around for a bit.

I had that feeling Stan was not just quiet about Jrue by accident especially considering how much Griff praised him as the face of the franchise last year.
