Yeah tbh, some of these shifts in strategy and philosophy driven by analytics has kind of ruined the pure natural beauty of basketball and baseball.

Example. Guys like Ant Edwards should not be taking 9 threes. KAT should play more in the post. Etc.

And in baseball we see a lot of goofy shifts and over conservative pitch counts. Kershaw can be rolli g through 5, but the manager has 2 people warming up in the bullpen before he even takes the mound in the 6th.

Football’s analytics has led to more passing and more 4th down and 2 point conversion attempts, which is actually fun. The only thing holding football back, is the inconsistent officiating and the inconsistent punishments/treatment that the league office gives certain teams.

Is an entirely subjective and personal preference based argument. Personally I much, much rather see what the game is today than what it was in the 90’s.

Frankly I think nostalgia has completely papered over how ugly much of basketball was. When the sport was largely 4 guys standing around and you dumping the ball into a center or power forward to iso on the block and chuck up a shot.

As to people taking less threes, why? Kat is one of the best big man shooters in the history of the game, he is not one of the best post players. Play to your strengths.

Furthermore, analytics is a tool. The same analytics that quantified the value of the three and the breakeven point for when it makes more sense to take a three than a two is the same analytics that is also being used as a basis to partially revitalize the mid range game as a means to take advantage of how defenses and rule changes have adjusted to the emphasis on threes. Analytics is not a stagnant science, it evolves with the data, and you want the best people collecting and interpreting that data so you can constantly be at an advantage with changes in how the game is evolving. Wanting anything less than that is just emotional phobia of math.

Right, and that is not to say there wasn't pretty basketball or absolutely awe inspiring players, but the overall game was often, kinda ugly.
