If he's a competitor why is he not competing on defense?

We started last season 7-23... 5-9 is markedly better than that

New coaches with new players, with a small off season is tough. How are the other new coaches going?

We started the season 6-9 last season before the losing streak.

You may not like Stan but stop acting like this is a talent filled roster. Lonzo sucks, Bled maybe the most overrated player in the league. It's laughable that he got 1st team defense over Jrue, he is no where near the player Jrue is.

Pels need to fire him

Yep, I tried to temper the enthusiasm. I recall some posters actually gave SVG credit for the 2006 Heat championship

Even if it is not a talent filled roster. You have to let your other guys play and see if it works. That’s what is pissing a lot of people off. He’s too loyal to his veterans even when they don’t pair well together. Any other coach would give Kira more minutes than what SVG is doing. Also, our offense is predictable at the end with all the iso. It’s like they don’t trust each other shooting or something.

Until we start shooting an average amount of 3s we are basically throwing the game.

The tank is on.

This is what he was brought in here to fix. If you disagree with that goal, that's one thing, but if you think the Pels do need to get better at defense, something I think most of us have agreed on for a while, then you can't just declare this a failure less than 15 games in. It takes time to change habits.

If you're pissed about Kira's minutes because he's a retread, I understand and agree. But if you're pissed because you think some assistant could have come in and made these guys play defense any better, you're fooling yourself.

The tell tale sign of SVG being a bad hire was the fact that none of the other 29 teams seemed to want him for 3 straight years after utterly failing in Detroit during his tenure there. Should have hired Dan Craig

Somehow SVG has a tighter leash than most of the coaches on new teams.

At the end of the day the players have to execute. This team has a collective low IQ and the 2.5 guys who have been “winners” on this team aren’t exactly culture drivers, nor the best players. The roster construction is Janky and the team has 2 new starters. Everyone has underperformed from the 3. A coach can’t fix any of those things in without a full camp and at minimum a full season. Utah is a legendary organization. We just have to stay the course and see what guys evolve and how future roster construction goes. No one expected JJ and Jhart Bledsoe and Lonzo all to regress.

Right - our defensive efficiency is currently bottom third in the league.

The only reason why on offense you should be shooting as few 3s as us, is if you are a good defensive team.

We are not good at defense right now, so we need to let fly offensively if we want any chance to win.

Players shot a lot better last year, and the already poor defenders weren’t having a new defense installed without a real training camp, new coach, and two new starters. We’re bad but really should have some context

do any of those teams have a duo like Zion and BI? with complimentary pieces like Adams, JJ, Bledsoe, etc?

Seriously don’t see what you guys see in this guy. He hasn’t done anything positive yet. Stop giving the BS excuse of a short training camp. Thibs, Mark Daigneault, Nate Bjorkgren, Billy Donovan are making best out of their rosters and I bet any of them can put a better product on the floor than what we are seeing from Gundy.

I def expected the defense to be better. Thibs is a new hire too, Knicks were terrible on D last year and he has the Knicks as a top 5 D right now

I was hoping we might consider Tony Bennett. His pedigree, experience, and record are top-notch.
