Because college coaches are better teachers of the game of basketball than professional coaches?

Because under college rules, you are restricted to practice limitations, while in the NBA it becomes a player's job?

Well in the case, I coulda compared him to Dikembe Mutombo, but I didn't. So there goes your theory.

You do know that one of Embiid's strengths, his athleticism, is perhaps Thabeet's biggest weakness, right?

Ok. It takes more than athleticism to have success at the next level. IMO, he is not ready. He just started the game like you pointed out.

WHat is Wiggins, Parker's and Embiid's ceiling?
Wiggins could be a Paul George?
Parker could be a Paul Pierce/Joe Johnson maybe when they were in their prime?

What is Embiid's ceiling? maybe a better Gortat or better offensively Deandre Jordan, or more athletic Pau, i don't really know? I don't see him as someone that will hit open jumpers like Bosh would, maybe he can down the road, but he is bigger and more athletic than those that can hit those shots (Bosh and Noah) but he's not bigger than say Drummond, Howard, or Gasol who have good post up games.
Regardless, take the best center in the league.
Would you rather Paul George on the Pelicans, or Chris Bosh or Noah or Drummond (listing athletic centers)?
Having a guy like Bosh or Noah on our team makes us a playoff team. Having Paul George makes us much closer to a championship contender.

Why must we compare every prospect to current and former players?

Embiid is a 7-footer that POTENTIALLY could be a dominant force on the defensive end, while possessing a solid low post game and more than adequate in the mid-range game and at the free throw line.

Why is everyone so in love with Embiid?

A high ceiling center with a potentially catastrophic injury who needs plenty of time to work on his body and develop his game? Sounds similar to Nerlens Noel.

I guess I just value a C more than a SF

Almost everyone does. But look at how that worked out for Portland with Oden.

The injury issues with big men just tip the scales for me.

that was my point in looking at who they compare to.

an all star SF makes us a better contender than an all star center.

Bill Simmons says STFU
quote:

One more important note: Joel Embiid is going to be the first pick of the 2014 draft. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. These teams are full of it. We’re worried about his back, we’re hearing it’s bad … Hold on, I’m actually going to stand under the bull as he craps on me. It’s Smokescreen Central right now. And enough with the Oden parallels; unless Embiid’s pre-draft MRI reveals a career-threatening back issue (doubtful), NOBODY is passing on a franchise center who could easily be described as “The 7-Foot Serge Ibaka.” Stop it. He’s going first. We’re officially calling tonight’s lottery “Bleed for Embiid.”

This is from his "NBA Draft Lottery Karma Rankings" where he gave us "a cereal bowl of points":
quote:

8. New Orleans Pelicans
Sorry, they totally botched the Chris Paul trade (and gave him to Donald Sterling, no less!), netted about 23 cents on the dollar for him, then were summarily rewarded by t?h?e? ?l?e?a?g?u?e? ?t?o?t?a?l?l?y? ?r?i?g?g?i?n?g? winning the Anthony Davis Lottery. He’s only the NBA’s third-best asset right now and the logical answer to the question, “Who’s winning the MVP trophy after LeBron and Durant are done passing it back and forth?” I think we’re good from a karma standpoint, New Orleans. Throwing a couple karma slabs your way only because I love the Brow.

He's right.

If there were no issues with Embiid's back, he would be the top player on at least 20 of the 30 GM's draft board, probably more.

Take Hibbert off of the Pacers and they are still a playoff team that can win a playoff series easily, which they just proved, twice.

Take Paul George off of that team and they would have no shot at making the playoffs if they were in the west, and are most likely a .500 team.

The Rockets would be worse without Harden than without Howard.

The thunder have no center
The heat have no center
The Grizz have two really good ones and can't go anywhere with them.
Portland has no center
Dallas has no center
Golden State has no center
The Clippers center cant make a basket from further than 5 feet from the basket.

The spurs have an aging Duncan, who is no where near the focal point anymore.

That's the top 10 teams in the league.
Pacers, Rockets, Grizz are only teams with good centers, and only the Grizz rely mainly on theirs, and they've won nothing with them.

I like Embiid, but i'd take Wiggins and Parker first. If they turn out to be all stars, we have a shot at something special.
If Embiid turns out to be an all star, we are still only relying on AD at end of games. Our biggest problem is not having a closer. AD will be that guy, but he needs a sidekick.

Regardelss, none of these guys are sure things so it really doesn't matter. I just want the top 3 pick first, and i'll be happy with whoever we get.

I stopped there. Well no fricking shite. A top-10 player versus a player who has trouble catching a pass.

that's my point.
If wiggins or Parker turn into a George type player, that's much better than Embiid turning into an allstar as far as our chances at winning a championship.
An allstar 2 or 3 will get us farther than an allstar 5.

You can't win a title with your best two players being the 4 and the 5 (Grizzlies). You have to have a great 4 or 5, and a great 2 or 3.
