Solomon Hill contract

His contract is expiring at the end of next year. At one point expiring contracts were assets in the NBA. Is that still the case? Will we be able to move him at the deadline and get something in return?

they can try and send it out in any AD trade, but they can also buy out his contract and stretch it

Idk. But if we do actually trade AD, I would make it a requirement that whoever takes him has to take Solo as well.
What the frick was Demps thinking with Solo. The most unforgivable thing he did IMO

Demps has apparently had a six foot erection with a cheeseburger on the end of it for Solo since he was in college.

If we can get something for Hill at the trade deadline we should not include him in the AD trade.

IIRC, expiring contracts are valuable because they can free up cap space and enable a team to sign big-name free agents.
But, next year's class of free agents is likely to be very sparse, correct? So, if there aren't a lot of free agents to try to attract, I wouldn't think that there'd be a lot of value in expiring contracts, correct?

The only way we’re competing for something this year is if we keep AD which means we can’t get a team to accept Solomon in an AD trade.
If we do trade AD we aren’t trying to win anything next year. It’s all about player development and figuring out who fits where. At best, solo is an expiring contract that we can trade to a team looking for an expiring. Get a second round pick at least. At worst, we just let his contract expire naturally. No reason to water down our assets from a potential AD trade by forcing a team to take Hill instead of giving us another asset.

2020:
Kyle Lowry
DeMar DeRozan (PO)
Otto Porter Jr (PO)
Andre Drummond (PO)
Anthony Davis (PO)
Hassan Whiteside
Harrison Barnes
Jabari Parker
Draymond Green
Ben Simmons (RFA)
Buddy Hield (RFA)
Jamal Murray (RFA)
Lots of mid-tier talent

It’s fluid

They are valuable when you are willing to take on a longer bad salary in return.

Solomon isn’t going anywhere if AD stays, no ones willing to take that contract and that player, but if Davis wants out- my first requirement is whoever gets AD gets Solos contract too.

Yea we may be able to get a decent asset if we take on a longer term worse contract from a team that wants to go big game hunting in fa. It would be smart to do that if we trading AD. Pretty much how the Nets turned it around so fast.
And man would love to know what the hell Demps was smoking giving out that contract? Every single person on tv, Twitter, etc at the time laughed at us for that contract. Dude averaged like 4 points a game??? Dell shoulda been fired years ago..

Hill is a net neutral asset now since he is an expiring. You could get a team like the Suns to take him by throwing in a few 2s
