re: So, the whole piano story was BS?

I'm guessing he will have to issue some sort of statement or follow up, otherwise, maybe NOLA.com is even further in the shitter than I thought....And I already think it's probably in a pretty poor place after years of budget cuts, sales, and consolidations in the local media industry.

I feel like it’s gonna be crickets. Zach Lowe even mentioned when he read it, he figured it was just sour grapes from a former employee.

Again, "It didn't happen" is one kind of denial. "I don't play the piano" is a completely different level.
Clark's article said: "During the bubble, Griffin asked to meet with Zion and played the piano for him."
That certainly made it sound that Griffin played the piano in some attempt to impress and/or bond with Zion. That was the main fallout from the article. That's just not possible if Griffin doesn't play the piano.
I'm not mad at Christian Clark or Jake Madison or anyone else in the media for their reporting, because using anonymous sources is just part of reporting, although I do think there needs to be a high standard when depending on them. But sources lie and/or get stuff wrong, especially when they weren't in the room.
But I honestly won't trust Clark's reporting the same now. Or Jake's, because he backed that story. Because it was a big story, and it was wrong.
[Edit: that is, barring some explanation. It demands explanation.]

I mean typically with anonymous sources you cross reference them with other sources to see if they line up, do background info to make sure they aren't potentially acting with an agenda that includes shading context or falsifying facts, and often even notify the target before you run something to see if they want to issue a response on the record(circumstance depending obviously).
In the most generous reading(besides the possibility he is correct, since Griff said he didn't play the piano, which doesn't mean he wasn't trying to learn by bringing that keyboard, as that would be a very Griff type of way around it), maybe Clark did all that vetting and the source just burned him. Happens to even great reporters now and then....Though I suspect it's probably more like he heard some hearsay from more than one person and went with it. Which may end up costing him his reputation.

This isn’t that confusing. Zion said Griffin had an electric keyboard he was trying to learn to play. Entirely possible Griffin was fooling around on it while talking with Zion. Nothing really odd about that. Nobody wrote he serenading Zion with the theme to “Endless Love.” Griffin saying he doesn’t know how to play piano actually fits with Zion saying he was trying to learn how to play. It’s an easy non-denial, denial….

Christian Clark: I’m told the song chosen by David Griffin to serenade Mr. Williamson was “Just The Two Of Us” by Bill Withers.

Appreciate the defense of me, but don't need it. My girlfriend is way hotter than whoever he is with, and she's quite accomplished too. I don't spend my spare time attacking others online to make me feel better about my shitty life. Plus, I'm glad he follows me on twitter and listens to my stuff. Loyal listeners like him are why this, as my side hustle, pays more than being a high school football special teams coordinator.
As for the piano stuff. It really could be a simple as Griff lied. Wouldn't be the first time he has flat out lied in an interview. Or it could be as some people stated on here. Maybe he, himself, was learning to play the piano and therefore doesn't know how to play yet.
If you don't want to believe me that's fine. Though it's not like I have a history of being wrong about this stuff.

I mean really dude…you aren’t helping anything at all. Why even listen…since you clearly do….if this is what you are adding to the situation.
This is a shitty response to come after Jake like this. If you have a legitimate gripe about the actual reporting work and Pelicans insight, then find another medium source and keep listening to mouth breathers.
I'm not coming after Jake. But I listen to his show with the expectation that he's providing his listeners with accurate reporting. When that reporting is wrong or misleading, it's fair to ask why.
I have no trouble believing that Griff and Zion had some kind of awkward social interaction that rubbed Zion the wrong way. But the way the story was framed, especially by Jake on his show, was negative in a way that is now clearly inaccurate.
Why is it shitty for me to want to know the truth about what actually happened?
Posted on 9/27/21 at 7:29 pm to shel311
Right. There’s SOME level of truth to it.
I also think Zion was sugar coating a bit and was smoothing things a bit when he said “we don’t agree on everything but it’s all love”.
They probably don’t agree on a lot.
But it’s also probably not as bad as the article makes it seem.

Y'all want me to interact with the board, ask me questions,I'm not going to if crap like this is here. And, yes, I could shed more light on this story and what Griff said today.
Well, it was nice having you here for a while, but I hate to tell you that Hester isn't even close to being the biggest a-hole we have here on this site. We don't have a mod for this board, and there's going to be crap like that.

The thing I keep going back to is that Zion didn't have to take that approach, but he chose to, including going out of his way to say he wants to be here and collaborating on presenting a unified front. Lots of ways he could have self preserved his image without doing that. But he chose to go in, and do it with feeling.
To me it would almost make me feel even better if Zion was actually lying to help cover up for Griff and actively helping to massage the image of the team and franchise after that reporting.
But I do suspect, it's more that whatever happened in the bubble was rather inconsequential and it got blown up through the hearsay chain. That what truth is there isn't as bad as inferred. I mean, lets not forget, for all his insider claims, Clark completely missed the biggest, which was Zion's injury. So how tuned in were those sources anyways???

Looked up Jake Madison on Facebook. I don’t really follow Jake’s Pelicans stuff but I think he was the first one to pop up.
The second one said he “studied at eating pussy”. I really wish that was this Jake, but it’s not.

You seriously just wrote a paragraph about having a hotter girlfriend and more money than someone. Lol
I agree with the OP. Not only did Clark not add any context to the piano story you along with many in the local media used that as fuel to utterly hammer Griff as an executive.
I mean unless something new comes out you guys at worst got it wrong and at best got taught a lesson by the person you considered a fool.

In the thread on the initial report about the piano, when I said that we fans didn't know the circumstances of the piano thing, you said:

I agree it doesn't matter that much if Griff and Zion don't have a buddy buddy relationship. But you also don't want it to be weird. I can tell you for a fact Zion found the piano thing weird. Off putting.
How could you tell me that "for a fact" if you are now saying that you don't know what, if anything, actually happened?

If you can't see what I'm saying I don't know what to tell you. Piano/keyboard same thing.
It's very clear some of you have made up your mind on this and me saying Griff lied/misrepresented the truth in his remarks today isn't going to change that. You've made this about me instead of Griff doing a bad job.
