this is doing what Mac has been preaching he wants the team to do. take on negative assets, rehabilitate their image, then flip them for value. jordan poole is still young. his contract really isnt that insane compared to the landscape of the nba. if he improves, you can get some value for him. we werent winning anything next year. i love the deal.

We gave up $44 million in additional free space next offseason, and got the worse on court basketball players for this season in my opinion. Do we really think Poole and Bey are better than CJ and Olynyk?
I think that’s where I fall on this trade.

Last year was his 2nd best of his career. He was pretty solid on a bad team.
I get that but Warriors Poole had them thinking about benching Steph there for a New York minute

This is the first trade the Pels have made since Boogie that I actually liked. Poole is better than this aged version of CJ. I liked Olynyk though, I would have tried to hold onto him.

Meh Poole will be an expiring next offseason so in the same situation as CJ this year.

Who do you think we're signing with cap space? They're going to have to have some money on the books to flip. This is what they should be doing while there's no looming big contracts to worry about.

Herb, Poole, Murray, Hawkins, Reeves, Boston, and Bey.. Somebody's gone, not enough minutes
Hopefully Hawkins.

WERE NOT TRADING ZION FOR THE 100th TIME JESUS CHRIST
Well we don't have many ways to get better now besides the draft and that isn't enough to win a championship in the next few years...
We would have to trade Murray/ Herb to now upgrade any position or pray that both of them and poole are playing all star level basketball WHILE praying that we don't have the worst center rotation in the NBA.
Or we trade Zion.
I will say that the Murray/ Herb for Sabonis rumors would make this make more sense.

Cap space is king for all teams right now. So many good teams are at or over different aprons. We could have easily gotten to actual max cap space under the cap if we wanted. There were any number of results better than Poole and Bey at that point.

Cap space is king for apron teams. Not small market teams that won't touch the apron.

Hawkins and Reeves are just guys at this point. They should not be considered in minutes rotation
I'll include Boston with Hawkins, Reeves all looking for 20 minutes. Expect 2 or 3 for sure to be on the move.

I just don’t see Zion being on this team long. Like I’ve said before I’d be shocked if our main core is still here. Maybe Trey stays but Zion, Herb, Murray are probably gone as well as Poole and Bey within 2 seasons. We’re getting closer towards another rebuild phase

I don’t even know what you mean by that.

This doesn’t make sense to me as a way to get cap space savings. 6 mil in one year but significantly increase next year? Doesn’t feel worth it. Unless their plan is to just trade Poole next year as an expiring. Maybe he’ll have more value? I don’t really get it.

Well having cap space allows us to get assets from teams trying to avoid the 2nd apron.

it's a forward thinking move. kind of a breath of fresh air, even if you don't love the player, you have to be a fan of the idea. if it doesn't work out, what do we lose? an additional season of cap space? no FA is coming here willingly.

The Poole and Zion P&R could feed families if Poole’s shot is falling consistently. This team hasn’t had a play making PG in a long time.

I have a strong feeling the Pelicans are probably trying to package Herb and DJM for another starter and keep 7

Who is taking Murray coming off an Achilles tear?
