Yeah, that was some really bad conclusion jumping. But they still broke new news and I believe most of them are doing it for the love of the game. Bloggers gonna blog.

I still like the New Orleans Knights

Voodoo and Brass are the only names I'm on board with

It's right there in the headline:

Angels and Spirit Are the Two Leading Names for a Hornets’ Rebrand
It just was much too strongly worded for the information it was based on. First it was speculative to begin with that Benson registered the names, but to conclude that the names are the #1 and #2 choices based on that goes from reasonable speculation to wild arse guessery.

I didn't write it or name it.
I see the argument for it being a reach. I see the argument for it being a reasonable conclusion.
I tend to be very conservative in that regard.
I think the degree of overstatement falls far short of insistence or any need for recanting. I didn't see any lip from that writer when the Voodoo info came out. I see none now when the original writer brought Pelicans forward.
Things change.
Either way, the info was laid out for all to see, and that was the end of it. I see no insiatence, ego, pride.
Wrong? maybe.
Was right, now wrong? Maybe.

it was more so the twitter comments.
no one said you wrote. take a chill pill.
the only verifiable fact was the names were copyrighted.
there is no verifiable facts it was even the hornets.

I'm not upset. It's cool.
There are legitimate criticisms to be laid there.
Now that time has passed, it can be mentioned that more than one person connected with the team said those were the two names being discussed and none others were at the time (to their knowledge). This kicked off the search, and lo and behold. Maybe someone heard the same thing and registered the names post-haste. Maybe they were just straw man names.
I'm just saying that the characterization is harsh, even if criticism is deserved.

Honestly, I think they are probably "leaking" names to gage public perception of them. They are savvy people and know that a bad rebrand could cost the franchise millions in merchandising revenue.

whatever the name is, some some people are gonna like it, and some won't.
Posted on 10/16/12 at 5:48 pm to drake20
I'm still going to support this team no matter what the name is, but I'm not a fan of rebranding them the Pelicans.
Still hoping for the New Orleans Night.

Yeah, I'll still like the team, but I don't see myself buying Pelicans gear.

Maybe if they go with green, yellow, and black, mon.

While, clearly, Brass or Breakers would have been great names, Pelicans is far superior to VooDoo (gimme a fricking break) or Spirit or whatever the frick was in play.

My favorite. Cool sounding alliteration, and could pull off cool color, and a pretty sweet, non-cheesy mascot.
I don't hate Pelicans though. Like others said, most NBA team names are pretty lame when you think about it, everyone is just used to them by now. I'd be down with that old-school, pimp Pelican as a mascot.
The only thing I worry about with Pelicans are the colors being arena league/WNBAish (kind of like they are now). I'd like the go with something simpler like the Nets re-brand.

Pelicans is a great unique name.
Knights, Angels? Seriously? Those freaking suck arse.
Voodoo would be the best, but Pelicans is a nice consolation prize.
Krewe and Brass were not horrible.
Pelicans represents Louisiana - it's better for a baseball team, but it works.
For those of you complaining about names, come on. As have been mentioned, Pelicans is better than a bunch of current NBA names including the craptastic Hornets name.
Heat, Thunder, Lakers, Nets, Kings, Clippers, Raptors, Grizzlies (only because of where they're located), Jazz (see Griz), Magic, Bobcats, Cavaliers all suck infinitely more than Pelicans.
