I like this scenario, though I think a healthy Jrue Holiday is being undersold a little by trying to be pragmatic. Part of that pragmatism is Demps having to pull the deal.

Realistically, any team who thinks they can get over that "Golden State/Cleveland hump" this year will not find another piece like Holiday on the open market, re-signing or not. Looking at you, LAC/Toronto/SAS. The Spurs seemed to be interested in going all in on Conley. With an aging Parker, is Holiday that much different? He would surely re-sign with them. That's a team I haven't seen discussed much. Their young talent pool is always stocked and coached up.

Keep gentry, 'let him coach rest of season and then new GM can decide if they want to keep him or go in a different direction.

How do you sell low on Holiday if he's a pending FA? If you're not bringing him back then anything you get is something

You got 3 months to showcase a healthy Holiday. If he performs like he did last season then there will be multiple teams calling about him come February

ATL or someone in the know. Assuming Jrue comes back healthy, will the Pels FO have a reasonable amount of confidence in Jrue's FA plans by the deadline? If the FO doesn't have the warm and fuzzies re resigning him, than it definitely makes sense to flip him.

I only see a few situations that Holiday would think are automatically better. The league is pretty set at PG and several of the teams that had needs made moves this offseason. I don't see him going to a place like Milwaukee so that leaves something requiring a few dominoes to drop first. If CP3 leaves the Clippers I can see taking his place in Los Angeles having appeal. But unless Holiday has told them otherwise I don't see why the team wouldn't feel confident they could keep him.

Gotcha. I'd definitely be inclined to keep him, then. Which FA could we sign, irrespective of position, that'd be better than Jrue? If he is healthy we need to hang onto him.

New GM/Coach
Sign Jrue
Hope Buddy keeps improving.
Land a top 5 pick.
Keep firming up bench.

For anyone curious...Buddy's current PER is 9.13...Austin Rivers' current PER is 7.48.

Not just that, with his cap hold he's only $16 million towards the cap during FA. I just don't know who you spend the other FA money on. I think the Pels again will be out of the running for the big money FAs, that's why I started a thread about Barnes the other day. What if the Pels have the #10 pick, the Mavs a top 5 pick and Dirk retires? I know some people would have an epic melt if we traded a top 10 pick for a maxed out Barnes, myself probably included, but where else will the Pels get a 2 way wing that can average 20+ ppg before AD can force a trade?

Realistically, trading for a max guy in a bad situation is probably the only way the Pels can add legit talent in the next year.

With that said, I'd be furious if they traded a top ten pick.

if this is where we are (which is probably not far off), they should look to move Davis sooner rather than later. no one goes to the games or cares as it is right now...admit defeat, clean house, see how the lottery shakes out and try to cash in with Philly or Boston for a massive reload.

unfortunately, they'll probably deal the pick (w/ only top 3 protection) for expiring Rudy Gay in about a month.

We're sadly getting close to that point. I just don't see how you get where you need to be without a top 3 pick this year. Utah had some other issues going on with Deron Williams that forced their hand a bit, but I doubt they regret preemptively trading him and doing a rebuild. They still haven't gotten a cornerstone but they're a young and exciting team that the fans can enjoy cheering for.

to paraphrase our friend 42 in his recent article, this team has gone "pop"...they quit the other night and now cannot seem to play competent or exciting basketball with or without davis

and thats the thing you cant fix within the remaining window of opportunity. time to move on and trust the fans to re-group. there is an opportunity with boston and Philadelphia that may not ever recur

they will be a laughingstock for a while but what could be worse than this?

man, those 42 missives are hard to read

some good thoughts at times in there, but you have to wade through plenty of self-aggrandizing bullshite to find them.
