Dumping the worst player in the league that cant score 10 points in a gym by himself and a late first for niko has to be top 5 all time trade rape, right?

Reading the articles about the series, the defense from Jrue and AD is always talked about, but nobody is talking about Niko's D. He may not be blocking shots at the rate that AD does, but the guy is damn near as versatile defensively. We now have two bigs that are capable of switching onto any player on the court without getting completely exposed. That's a huge part of why the defense is clicking right now. Switching pick and rolls doesn't seem to put us at a major disadvantage.

I’ve seen worse trades just involving the Pelicans / Hornets.

The Baron Davis trade was godawful, for instance. Baron for Speedy Claxon and Dale Davis, the latter of which got released upon arrival.

Will Guillory just posted one

quote:

While Mirotic is known for his offense, his defense has been just as essential in this series.

New Orleans has challenged its big men to chase Blazers guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum around on the perimeter, especially off screens. Mirotic has done an exceptional job of moving his feet and forcing the ball into other areas on the court.

The aggression that Davis and Mirotic have played with defensively is unlike anything Portland has seen this season. It's left the No. 3 seed in the West looking like a shell of itself, searching for answers it can't find.

"The most important thing for me was showing (the team) that I can play some defense, especially in these kind of games," Mirotic said. "In the playoffs, we need everybody defensively. For me, it was most important to play good defense and rebounding the ball."

mirotic defending without fouling in the paint AND denying the penetration on the perimeter is the single most surprising thing about this series. not that i'm an expert on all things niko, but this was unexpected

Loved the trade when it happened and still do. Thought Niko was really underrated and held back by Hoiberg's usage of him. It thought he would flourish here and would be the closest approximation to Boogie that we could get.

I did not appreciate how much skill he had on defense. I thought he would be good against bigs and knew he was a hustle guy, but I did not realize how good his anticipation/IQ were on the defensive side.

Niko is an exceptionally intelligent player. I did not expect that.

He knows when to trap on D, when to switch, and doesn't foul.

We got a steal if this is the Niko we get to keep and not the shitty stretch 4 only version. They're allowing him to do more than camp the outside.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen him stay planted and not leave his feet on pump fakes. To watch the shooter get smothered every time is awesome.

Nikola Mirotic currently leads all players in playoff WARP (1.0). #PlayoffNiko

think about that...
no matter how you feel about WARP as a stat, if you measure all players by the same criteria it has some value.

nikola mirotic, in three games, has accounted for one of those wins by himself, when measured by WARP.
