When the Pels are contending, those old bastards won't be stopping us if they are still around in 2-3 years. Although Pop could own Monty from the grave if he wanted to.

Like Fear said, the Spurs are like the Bucs. I don't really hate the Bucs.

The retiring shite you're talking about is true, but IMO as long as Pop is there, the Spurs will still be very good, so I don't think it matters. I just don't like the Spurs and I hope they lose. I'm sorry, but I can't cheer for them.

You expect the Big 3 to opt out of their contracts a year before their contracts expire with a series win? And even if that happens, there are multiple younger guys they can resign after this year or next year that complimented them well.

Sorry, but the Heat are not the rivals of the Pels.

I meant more them just being a generally dislikable bunch that everyone hates than being anyones rival

As a fellow fan of a team in the Southwest Division......
Go Spurs Go & frick the Heat
I was cheering for the Spurs last year after they knocked the Grizzlies out of their longest postseason run in franchise history. I am sure as hell cheering for them this year.
Over time I've just developed a respect for how they go about their business and how they run their franchise. They are truly THE model for small market success in the NBA.
This isn't college sports where we are recruiting against these guys.

This is ridiculous. That organization being successful does more to help the Pelicans than the Heat being successful. We need less superstars creating superteams and more building from within. The Spurs don't compete with us for any of our talent, but you damned well better be sure the larger market teams do.
When is the last time a decision came down to FA choosing between New Orleans and SA? I can't remember that happening ever.
ETA: This rivals business is ridiculous. You have to be a threat to be a rival or at least have a long standing history with each other. We are neither. We were a threat one time and we blew it.

My dislike for the Heat completely outweighs my desire to not see a division rival win the NBA title
Fwiw Pels vs Spurs have a fraction of the emotion that a Saints vs Falcons game...chalk it up to each NFL game meaning more or that Saints/ Falcons games are competitive each time...I'm a die hard Pels fan and have since the franchise moved here but it's not the same
Frick the Heat geaux Spurs!

I tried to avoid this thread but, alas, I was weak.
First, comparing the Spurs to the Falcons as rivals is absurd for a lot of reasons.
Second, the Spurs have a well run franchise, a well built roster and terrific coach. They scheme well and play smart basketball.
They are to be admired.

agree, and i am from texas and have never been a s purs fan, but you nailed it.
and we are not "rivals"
division rivals maybe, but you tards who think the spurs hate us can go lay down and drink a glass of milk.

Not at all the same. The Falcons are actually rivals to the Saints. The games are usually heated no matter what the records are and both teams have a dislike for each other. You can't have a one sided rivalry and I doubt the Spurs pay special attention when the Pelicans are on the schedule. If the Bucs played the Cowboys in the NFCCG I'm pulling for the Bucs.

You have to win a few games in the series in order to be called a rivalry.
