he guys that weren't (Parker, Rondo) were elite players in other areas. Avery is an exception, but that team had Twin Towers.

What about Kidd? Kidd shot like 34% from the field that year. I don't think Vasquez is going to lead the team to a title, but it's not out of the question at all. I also think there are more important holes to fill if we think we can compete for a championship.

what this team needs more than anything is a scorer. probably a two guard who can create his own shot and get into the lane...

anyone know of one available for about 50 mil?

In Dallas, Kidd became a legit threat as a 3pt shooter. He shot 46%, 41%, 43%, 34%, 35% in Dallas. When they won it all, he was 37% from 3 in the playoffs.

Depending on how they fill the three, Vasquez can make sense. But without a jump shot or the ability to break guys down off the dribble he will be a liability in the playoffs as a starter.

I like Vasquez. He's fine for this team and he's been playing well. And he could be the answer if he develops a jump shot. But as it stands, IMO he's still best as a backup.

His shooting was not good during their championship season. He shot like 36% from the field and 34% from 3. Greivis is not far off of those numbers (which admittedly aren't good). Vasquez is over 40% for his career, though. Now, if you want to compare Kidd's first 3 years, Vasquez again compares favorably. Kidd had more assists, but also played considerably more.

As it stands, he is the best PG on our team and no better PG is available, so he's best as a starter. I'm sorry, but who is better AND available? I think that list of "better" is a lot shorter than people think. He has damn good assist and turnover numbers with pitiful play so far from the 2 position.

Outside of Isiah and Magic, please give me one elite pg to lead his team to a title? And before you say Tony Parker, you must remember...Pops was really hard on Parker at a young age and did not really trust him running the offense. GV is playing well and doing what he is supposed to do. He is protecting the ball, not forcing his own offense, and he is at the tops in the league in assist at the moment. Is he the long term solution at pg? No. He is definitely more than a capable backup and was a really good acquisition by the front office.

Here I am sorry, time difference. I think the two games before last were Vasquez played very badly is what motivated this thread. In any case, more than defending Vasquez as such we just have to be realistic.

We are paying the guy 1.5 million this year; that is right 1.5 million. So guess what with 1.5 mill you do not get a superstar PG. How surprising. I challenge anyone, to get out there in the market (not only now, any time) and get a significant better PG for 1.5 mill.

By the way getting only that much, he went out injured yesterday, got in to the change room, retapes his ankle, came back slower than ever, and almost got the team over the line. Now that is commitment. Can someone remain me how much we are paying our superstar, that you see the wrong way and he needs 6 weeks to recover emotionally before he can touch a basketball again?

Most teams would hope they could get a player like him for that amount of money even if it is only as bait for a multiplayer deal later.

Steve Kerr never started a game in chicago. ... no really.... not one.

a lot of those teams listed had combo guards that handled the ball. DWade/ Lebron, Pippen Jordan, Kobe.

Kenny Smith

well they had Clyde Drexler for their 2nd title.

for their 1st title, kenny smith/vernon maxwell/sam cassell.
