Honestly Griff doesn’t have a choice at this point.

Zion won’t reach his potential until he teams with an Alpha like what happened with AD.

AD was a little bitch and LeBron turned him into a man. Or as much a man as he could be. Someone that will hold him accountable.

I don't understand why this wouldn't be an option. He's getting paid 125M over the next 3 years. If he's not performing, hurt or can't return significant trade assets. Why keep paying him?

No matter what, they need to void his contract. I would seriously love to hear why they shouldn't..

Yea from what I've read the contract isn't an issue because most if not all of this guaranteed money has been paid or will be paid out by the end of this season.

If this guy is really not serious about his health and playing shape as many suggest then I don't care who his potential may be that kind of attitude will wreck a team cohesiveness and that might actually be what we're all seeing playout.

Nobody on the planet is cutting a Zion Williamson. I can’t stand that people discuss this like it’s a thing, complete waste of time.

And for anyone that can take their emotions out of it, Zion coming back and playing is still the Pelicans best chance of succeeding. It’s sucks that that’s the case. But that’s the situation.

Wait....Zion is still with New Orleans? He has more arse time than playing time ever since he came in to the organization, Trade him, we won't miss someone who is rarely on the court.

I don't know anything related to this but it looks to me like there is/was some friction between Pels and Zion. This strategy is oddly it's best, and probably only move. Continue to build the team around an uber-talented but unreliable player. But how do you showcase your talent, which you have to move, on a team that has extremely poor odds of making a play-in. Sorry, a tank is not, nor should be in the cards. Call it a gap year, trade-off 1 of your high-end assets, compete and finish near or at .500, get a lottery pick (not a top 4), plus draft capital provided through trade? Still a lot of talent left on the roster all under good contracts.

The team is already tanking but why should that not be in the cards?

We have a roster full of good role players . The only hope to get this to be a real playoff team is to find a star level player . Your best odds of getting that type of player, in our market , are via the top of the draft .

It's not a thing?

What if he gains more weight and misses the rest of the year?

Team is tanking because they are injured and bad. They get players back and they won't be bad so you'd have to be ok with actively losing games. Personally not built like that, and tanks don't always go the way you think they will, but to each his own. Griff definitely doesn't want to tank because he knows he won't be part of the rebuild.

Correct, it’s not a thing. That happens we end up with a higher draft pick which is what we want.

Great, we draft Flagg, who plays the exact same position as Zion. If Zion has no trade value, you are just going to pay him 40M+ to hang around?

We are already too far gone at 4-18 over a quarter of the way through the season .

49 wins got us in the play in and a matchup with the 1 seed last year . Do you see us going 45-15 over the next 75% of the season ?

There are only 2 other teams in the west that are trying not to get to the play in so we will be well positioned for solid lottery odds . BI will get traded , cj may also get traded …winning will not be the goal this year . Frankly I’m not sure it ever has been save for few seasons

If you get Flagg you get excited not worry about positions .

I’m all for moving on from Z and I would do it sooner than later but they aren’t going to outright cut him .

I agree, but that's different than tanking. If Pels get near .500 he can sell the team as a contending team with youth plus two lottery (not likely top 4) tickets, their own and one from a trade. At the same time, Griff says we may need to further evaluate our coaching, training and player development staff ....

You make Zion his backup until his contract expires.

That makes no sense. His contract was structured to be voided. He just fired his agents because of that. Yet you say it's not a possibility. It's likely right now. This should be his come to Jesus moment.

If we cut him, nobody else is giving him a deal anywhere close to what he would make here. I doubt he would get a deal over 25M. So why would people trade for him, making over 40M a year?

Zion's trade value is basically nothing,

which is why i think they put this statement out there... to try to artificially inflate it, as best they can...

not only that, it puts his camp on notice that we control this process, not them, so there's that, but it's pretty clear he don't wanna be here, the fans (at least most of us) don't see anyway for him to get back in good graces with the fan base, and it's probably for the best, for both sides, to go their separate ways...
